Emergency at Old Stables: Bee Swarm Rescue Mission. Welcome to the first (hopefully not the last) video for International Scrapbooking Weekend. I am writing this on 29th April and, so far this is the only video I have recorded to share with you this weekend. I am hopeful that I will get some others done in the next couple of days, but as I am working at the local elections from 6am until 11pm on Thursday, don’t hold your breath!

You probably know that I LOVE going to the gym, and it was there I received a call from my neighbour on Friday. He was letting me know that a huge swarm of bees had flown down our track and was now setting up home in a shrub in his garden. Did I know anyone who would like to come and collect it?

Later in the afternoon a Bee Keeper arrived and managed to cage the Queen (who knew that was a ‘thing’?) and put her in a cardboard box ready for the workers to go and join her. He left them to it during the evening and then came to collect them during the night.

What a thing to have seen so close to. I am in my 60s and this is the very first time I have seen as swarm, never mind finding out exactly how these can be collected and moved to a hive. Oh, I should add, I did not go anywhere near the swarm, looking at it through my birdwatching binoculars was quite close enough for me. But my neighbour filmed them the swarm flying down the track AND took the close up I used on my page.

It was great to complete the whole page on video, although I do still have the journaling to write, but I have the space ready. To see how this came together, simply click the YouTube image below.
