DIY Mini Album: Simple And Stylish Folio Design. I was so excited to have found this amazing Folio Design, originally made by Rosa Kelly Scrapbooking and THIS video. I did cut down my A4 card to 11″, but that was the only change I made. If you are in North America, then you will need to add 1/4″ to all the lengths for the PAPER only.

This design uses just 6 sheets of card, although if you want to add patterned paper to all the spaces, you will need more than half a pack of 12 x 12″ paper unless you are happy to paper piece.

The video goes through all the steps to construct the folio and cover it with paper, but I did promise that I would share the card cutting and scoring, as well as the paper needed. Here goes.
Card Pieces required
I trimmed all my card to 11″ in length, but left the width untouched. International A4 card is about 8-1/4″ wide, so my folio is a little shorter than the original, but if you are in North America you can safely use the scoring and cutting for the card as I list it here, but PLEASE view the video BEFORE you put your folio together to ensure that I have described where things are added clearly:
- Score your first piece of card on the long edge at 6-1/4″ and 7″, fold both score lines in and burnish well
- Score your second piece at 1″, 1-3/4″ and 7″, fold all score lines in and burnish well. Add glue to the outside of the 1″ section and adhere this to the inside of the larger piece of the previous piece of card. These two pieces make the cover of your folio
- Score a third piece at 5-1/4″ and 10-1/2″, fold the 1/2″ piece out and the other score line to the inside to form a concertina. Using the 1/2″ section, add glue to the outside and adhere this to the inside of the cover, opposite the previous section. you should now have two pieces of card adhered to the first piece. The concertina piece forms the first page of your folio
- Score a forth piece at 1/2″ and 6″, fold to the inside. Glue the 1/2″ piece on top of the 1″ seam from the second step.
- From your fifth piece of card, cut two pieces at 5-1/4″. Score both LONG edges at 1/2″, fold in and burnish. Glue one to the top of the middle section of the BACK of the forth piece, glue the other piece to the bottom of the same section. Make sure that you centre these panels.
- From your sixth piece of card cut two pieces at 5-1/2″ and score both SHORT edges at 1/2″, fold and burnish. With the 1/2″ section to the left, add these to the right of the right hand 3/4″ spine. you need to layer these one on top of the other to form 2 pages.
IF YOU WANT TO ADD MAGNETS, DO THAT NOW BEFORE YOU ADD THE PATTERNED PAPER. In the pictures I have added orange squares to indicate where the magnets are placed. Once you have the first magnet of any group in place, add the second magnet on top to get the position correct, with a piece of Tear and Tape, sticky side up, between the pair of magnets, you then simply close the folio onto the magnet and tape, open the folio again and burnish the Tear and Tape in place.

I added two magnets to the inside of the left flap (first piece) and two on the outside of the middle, largest, section of the second piece, these close the cover of the folio.

I added a further pair of magnets to the inside of the right-hand section of the second piece, these line up with the previous pair to keep the two pages made with the sixth piece of card enclosed.

I now moved to single magnets. One on the inside of the top flap from the fifth piece of card. There is then another single magnet on the outside of the right panel of the concertina piece from the third piece of card.

The final magnet is on the outside of the end panel of the second piece of card. Hopefully these make sense when seen with the photos. I use some Neodymium Magnets I bought from Amazon. These are strong and very flat, measuring only 8 x 1mm. If you would like to use the same magnets, you can find them HERE using my Affiliate Link (commission earned)** .
Paper Sizes
I am sharing the sizes of paper you need if you are using A4 paper and don’t want to paper piece. If you are using North American Letter size card, you need to ad 1/4″ to each of the LONG edges. For example, if my measurement is 4″ x 8″, you will need to cut 4″ x 8-1/4″. Here we go:
- 3-3/4″ x 8″ – FOUR pieces
- 5″ x 8″ – SIX pieces
- 6 x 8″ – ONE piece and an optional piece if you want to cover the back of your folio
- 5-1/4″ x 8″ – TWO pieces
- 4-3/4″ x 8″- SIX pieces
- 5″x 7-1/2″ – FOUR pieces
folio using country woods paper

I used the test version of this folio with the Country Woods Papers. These have the added advantage that there is no ‘right way up’, so it can save on the amount of paper you use.

I also chose to do some paper piecing, which means you can stretch your paper even further.
