#SimpleStamping Saturday – Featuring Berry Harvest from Stampin’ Up! This week I am using one of the new Background Stamps from the Annual Catalogue. Berry Harvest is perfect for Autumn and Harvest projects. Even though we have had a pretty poor summer in the UK, the Blackberries are beginning to ripen around the village, so another reason to break out Berry Harvest.
#SimpleStamping Version
My first project, which I share in today’s Video Tutorial, uses just a Basic White Not Card and Envelope and some colour. I inked the stamp using the Blackberry Bliss and Garden Green Stampin’ Write Markers and coloured the leaves and berries with Gorgeous Grape and Garden Green Watercolor Pencils from the Assortment 2 set.
To ‘move’ the pigment from the Watercolor Pencils, I used my Stampin’ Blends Color Lifter. This is a great way to blend Watercolor Pencils because it leaves the stamped image in place, but blends the colour seamlessly, without pilling the paper. I love the finished effect.
Stepped Up Version
For my first stepped up versions, I heat embossed the image with Black Embossing Powder and then used the ‘Spotlight’ Technique to pick out one area to colour. I die cut the circle using the soon to be lunched, Deckle Edged Circle Dies. I used Old Olive and Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Blends on this circle.
To finish the card off, I added a layer of gold More Dazzle (having gutted it first, of course) to a Basic Black card base. I repeated the Black heat embossing for the sentiment, which is from Growth Takes Time, and then fussy cut it and a mat of gold More Dazzle. The ‘Spotlight’ technique is a great way to pick out a small area of a large stamped image.
Further Stepped Up Version
For my final version I repeated the heat embossing, but this time in Gold on Basic Black card. I love the look of gold on black, it is such a classic look. I put the card together as with the previous version, with More Dazzle as a mat. But this time I decided I wanted to add some fussy cut berry a leaf branches. I heat embossed these in gold, but on Basic White card, before colouring with Blackberry Bliss and Old Olive Stampin’ Blends. So the white didn’t stand out too much, I coloured any white areas of the fussy cut elements with the Dark Black Stampin’ Blend.
I wasn’t sure how I wanted the sentiment to look, so tried both black and white card with gold embossing, as well as with and without fussy cutting the More Dazzle again. I landed on simple gold embossing on Basic White. I think I made the right choice!
