Coffee and Cards with Liz NOT Live – Featuring the SIDE STEPPER CARD. I shared a stepper card a couple of Saturday’s ago (SEE THIS POST) and since then I have had lots of messages asking me to share how I made it, including the measurements. Now, this is more of a problem than you might think because we don’t all use the same size card. But I think I have worked out how to share this without going into too many complicated measurements, or having to work out how to make this style of card with 2 sets of measurements. Wish me luck!!
The key to this card is to not worry too much. I started with half a sheet of card, cut ‘short and fat’ and decided that I wanted my ‘steps’ to be 3-1/2″, so I marked this on my card using the small embossing tool on my Take Your Pick, but avoiding going too far to the sides. Next I decided that my first ‘step’ would be 1″ deep, so I lined up my card so the 3-1/2″ was at the top of my Trimmer, which meant I could see this measurement on the cutting ruler. I scored at the 1″ mark all the way down the card to the 3-1/2″ mark on the clear ruler. Don’t worry, this is much easier to follow on the video! I scored again at the 2″ mark. My next ‘step’ was going to be 1-1/4″ so I scored again at 3-1/4″ (1+1+1-1/4) and at 4-1/2″.
Now, this is the trick. You need to measure from your final score line to the back of your card (the 1″ score being at the front). This measurement is then divided in 2. I chose to measure this in cm because the maths was going to be easier, so my 9.5cm measurement gave me 4.75cm and it is THIS measurement that will determine where you LAST score line goes. I measured this from the back of the card. Then you need to cut at the width of your steps, so for me that was 3-1/2″ to form a slit between the first and last score line. Fold your score lines, starting with a mountain at the front, then, lining up the corners at the bottom right of my card, I burnished the fold and the stepper card is done! But seriously, it is MUCH easier to explain visually than in words, so please go and watch the Video Tutorial.
