Easy Cards to make at Home Crafting LIVE REPLAY with Liz Featuring Hippest Hippos. Did you catch me on my Live YouTube Video yesterday morning? It was just a little ‘warm’ in my Studio at the start, but once we had finished it was 35C, also known as TOO HOT! Remember that if you are reading this from overseas, especially in a country where 35-40C is not unusual, in the UK we don’t have Air Conditioning as a rule in a private house. Then add that my studio goes straight into the roof space and you may understand that it was more than a little hot.
Anyway, even allowing for my brain taking a nap, I did manage to make two cute cards using Hippest Hippos and the Hippo Dies from the Sale-a-Bration brochure. So these were both FREE with a qualifying purchase (each would need an order of £45/€60). The first card used another FREE item, but this time one of the Host Rewards from the Annual Catalogue. The Design a Daydream Paper is only available to buy with your FREE Host Rewards. You get a massive 48 sheets of patterned paper: 4 each of 12 double-sided designs.
I used the Picture This Dies to cut the holes in both the paper and some Masking Paper and then lined the masking paper up on a piece of Basic White. The masking paper meant that I could add a soft covering of Pool Party Ink to each hole, then stamp into them before colouring the images with Stampin’ Blends. To make sure the White cared didn’t show behind the patterned paper, I trimmed 1/8″ off each side before adding it to the card front, and covering it with the die cut paper. Adding a few Heart Pearls finished the card off.
My second card used more Masking Paper, but this time to punch a couple of clouds using the Cloud Punch. I sued the top of these to mask the Basic White layer and add some more Pool Party Ink to build up a sky. Using a wide post-it note, I added Old Olive for the ground before stamping the hippo ready to be coloured and covered with the paddling pool.
Using Silver Foil for all the die cuts other than the pool, I added a diving mask, snorkel and splashes to the hippo before adding the sentiment. I finished this card by running some Fine-Tip Glue into the space for the diving mask. This give a great gloss finish (so much better if you don’t then put your finger in it. Oh, and I added some more Heart Pearls as air bubbles coming out of the snorkel. To see exactly how these were made, don’t forget to watch today’s Video Tutorial.
