Top Tip Tuesday – Adhesive Mini Series – An Introduction to Foam Adhesives for Beginners and more! Today I am covering all our foam adhesives, which are an amazing way to add some depth to your projects.
Dimensionals come in 3 options and they are all great at their job. The main issue that I have had in the past with foam adhesives is how impossible it is to get the backing paper off some of them, to the extent that it is close to impossible. Not a problem with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The ‘classic’ Dimensionals come in white and you choose if you want the original, or newer ‘Mini’, both come in a pack of 3 sheets. Personally I always make sure I have good supplies of both as they are one of my ‘go to’ supplies. In the UK a single layer of Dimensionals can be added with the probability that a card will still be a ‘standard’, rather than ‘large’, letter.
It is now possible to get Black Dimensionals, which come in a Combo pack including 2 sheets of each size, rather than choosing the standard or ‘Mini’, so you get 4 sheets in total. I love using black Dimensionals on all darker colours so they fade into the background better. Remember that whichever you choose, the outside edges are also a great dimensional adhesive, so please, don’t throw them in the bin!!
We now have the option of getting solid Foam Sheets in a pack of six. These are larger than the Dimensional sheets and are great to cover larger areas, rather than using lots of individual Dimensionals. Be aware that they are a little deeper than Dimensionals, so may not fit through the ‘standard’ letter. By area, these are a lower price than Dimensionals so it may be worth trying these for larger areas and saving your Dimensionals for smaller areas.
One of the added benefits of the Foam Sheets is that you can also use them with our dies, so you can stamp and colour your image, add Foam Sheet to the reverse and then die cut, getting a great dimensional die cut.
Foam strips are great for shaker cards, but they are also perfect to use behind narrow die cut images (assuming you don’t use Foam Sheets of course!). These are deeper than any of the other Foam Adhesives, so in the UK will always be Large Letter to post. These are great for both straight edges and curves as they will bend round fairly tight corners.
I hope that was interesting, but I highly recommend watching today’s Video Tutorial to see more about each of these great adhesives. If you are in the UK, remember that if you run out you can always drop me an email asking me to send you any of your adhesive needs. I will simply send you an invoice, adding the cost of the Royal Mail service you want, and pop them in the post to you as soon as payment is received.
