Crafting LIVE REPLAY with Liz – Featuring Birdhouse Dies and Honeybee Home Bundle. I had such fun yesterday afternoon replicating a card that I had almost finished making before I went Live on YouTube.
I needed a couple of Birthday cards for friends whose birthdays are in the next few days, so it seemed the ideal moment to give this design a go, but with slight differences between them, as appropriate for the ladies concerned. At a Stampin’ Up OnStage a few years ago I had seen a card with a very simple bird in a cage with the bird and some ribbon weaving through the bars of the cage. It came back into my mind when I saw the Birdhouse Dies in the New Annual Catalogue, so it had to be tried.
Both cards use the Honeybee Home Bundle for the floral. They are the perfect size for the cage from the Birdhouse Dies (which I trimmed down a little). The first card uses Sweet Sorbet and Granny Apple Green Ink Pads for the floral. I stamped the image onto Fluid 100 Watercolour Paper and then spritzed it so the inks ran a little. The second card I did a little differently, using Polished Pink and Soft Succulent Stampin’ Write Markers. After some debate with my viewers, it was suggested that the best way for the second floral was to spritz the STAMP, not the card (in this case Shimmery White card).
You can probably see that I added some very soft colour to the Basic White layer, using a Blending Brush and Balmy Blue Ink. This adds a gentle contrast to the other white elements on the projects. The ink blending for this project needs a very light touch, so don’t get too carried away!
Having found the first cage very lightweight, even using Thick Basic White Card, for the second one I added two additional layers, having added Adhesive Sheet to the reverse of the card before die-cutting. This gave a much better result. The flowers weave through the cage and are held in place by overlapping Dimensional so they catch the cage and the floral. A White Bakers Twine knot through the loop at the top of the cage, a double Crinkled Seam Binding bow and some Iridescent Pearls finished the layer, so all that was needed was to add a Balmy Blue layer and a Thick Basic White Card Base.
