Creating With Kindness Blog Hop – Outdoors. If this is your first visit to my blog, welcome to my slightly mad corner of this crazy world, I hope you enjoy your time here and will consider coming back again soon. If you have visited before, you already know what you are letting yourself in for!
Today I am part of the Creating with Kindness Design Team Blog Hop with our theme of ‘Outdoors. One of the things I have enjoyed most following our move out of London to rural Oxfordshire just over 6 years ago, is that the countryside is, quite literally, on our doorstep. We live on an unmade up track and, until ‘they’ decided to build 36 new homes on the field opposite us, we had fields in front of us as far as the eye could see. That is still almost true, other than the field immediately in front of us, which is currently a building site, so will actually be nicer once the homes have been built. And I accept that there is a need for new homes, so as they had to be built somewhere, I can be grown up and accept that they are here.
But enough about the building in our village, you want to hear about my project on the theme of ‘Outdoors’. Now one of the reasons I got all caught up in the new homes, was to talk about how wonderful it is, after spending all but the last 6 years in a London Suburb, to have the country on our doorstep, which it still is, means that we get to experience the changing seasons much more closely. So, in August in London it feels like summer (I wish at the moment!), but in Oxfordshire I know that many of the harvests are already being taken in. The field next to the building site had its hay cut and bailed only last week. This, for me, is the first sign of Autumn – which is a little depressing as we have only had one week of summer so far this year!
So my project, which uses items from the Blackberry Beauty Suite in the new Mini Catalogue, embraces all of those harvest tones of gold and tan. I have used Blackberry Bliss for the stamping (well, it had to be done for this suite!) but softened the starkness of that against Basic White by adding some Cinnamon Cider ink using a Blending Brush. I also added Cinnamon Cider ink to the gold Ephemera pieces.
The sentiment is stamped in Early Espresso to match the surround, but you could stick with Blackberry Bliss if you would rather. I wanted there to be something to give the card some ‘movement’ so added a bow using Linen Thread and keeping the tails long. I love doing this and attaching the tails where you want them with a tiny dot of Multi Purpose Liquid Glue. You only need a very small amount and it works best if you allow the thread to find a natural place to lie, rather than forcing it into an awkward shape.
Thank you for joining me today, I hope you enjoyed your visit and look forward to welcoming you again soon.
