Creating Kindness Summer Fun. Time for another Blog Hop today, this time with the Creating Kindness Design Team. I LOVE this team of amazing crafters, we are all passionate about crafting as a positive outlet. Just so special. This month our Guest Designer is Leena Girsa from Canada. A visit to Leena’s Website is well worth the time.
I am sharing 2 cards with you today, but they use many of the same products and techniques. I showed a sneak peek of how I was going to make these during my YouTube Live Coffee and Craft session last week. You can find more on that HERE
Seahorse
I was using the Seascape Bundle, specifically using the fish stamps and dies in conjunction with the Layering Diorama Dies, but I wanted to show my followers the large Seahorse and Fish dies and how they work. These are slightly different as they don’t fully cut the image, but are held in place in a few areas so you can add some dimension by gently bending the card.
The trick that I shared was that you can cut the image out just by snipping the few places where the die is attached to the background. This means that you can use the negative piece to layer over another die cut card and add ink to just the die cut. This means that you can have the featured image stand out a little or as much as you wish.
My Seahorse is, whilst bright, quite subtle against the background, but as you will soon see, that doesn’t have to be the case as you will soon see. As I used Blackberry Bliss ink on the tail of the Seahorse and for the contrast behind the Seahorse die cut, I decided to use the Blackberry Bliss Ribbon (that has now retired) and added some Polished Pink Ribbon to that.
Koi Carp
As you will see, the fish card has a much more dramatic result with a real contrast between the fish and the background. To get this dramatic result I used a second die cut fish and held it over the one connected to the background to act as a mask, protecting the fish. You will get a little inky, but that is part of the fun! I used Coastal Cabana and Pool Party Inks for my background and added Pool Party Ribbon and the clear from the Silver & Clear Epoxy Essentials, coloured with Dark Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Blends.
Once your background is how you want it, you can simply replace the fish mask with the negative space mask and colour the fish you are using for your card.
You may just be able to see that for this card I added some of the Rainbow Glimmer Paper, selecting the yellow/orange area to work with the Koi Carp look I had created.
What do you think? Do you like this idea? Which is your favourite of the two cards?
Now you have seen my project for this Blog Hop, please continue along the hop, either by clicking on the ‘Next’ button below to go to Leena Girsa’s site, or by selecting someone from the list:
