Painted Poppies for The Global Design Project #GDP297. It has been years since I last entered the Global Design Project and I am not sure why I stopped, but this weeks challenge just caught my imagination so I thought I would give it a go. The Challenge this week is a Colour Challenge:
My only hesitation was that I am not a great fan of Pear Pizzazz. I don’t know why, but I am, so this was going to be a real challenge. Fortunately, I think Blackberry Bliss and Fresh Freesia are a match made in heaven, so that at least I was starting on a good footing. Then I just needed to design the card!
I took a look at my stamp library and for some reason I was immediately drawn to the Painted Poppies set, which has been on the shelf for too long. The row of small poppies just caught my imagination, and who says they have to be red? As a change to my usual colouring tools, I pulled the Stampin’ Write Markers in each of the Challenge Colours.
When I opened the stamp case I found that I hade stored the matching Painted Labels Dies in it, saw the large label die and the design came to me. I stamped the image on a piece of Basic White Card in Tuxedo Black and left it to dry fully before colouring the flower heads in Fresh Freesia. Using the Stampin’ Write Markers means that if you have really small spaces to fill you can use the writing end – genius! Pear Pizzazz actually worked really well for this project as a ‘fuzz’ at the bottom of the image to represent the leaves and grasses that usually surround wild poppies.
To make sure the Blackberry Bliss was an intrinsic part of the design, I trimmed the label along the embossed lines that are included. Adding the Blackberry Bliss label behind the flowers acts as a frame for the image, especially with the help of some Dimensionals. The Basic White Layer is embossed with one of the Meadow Moments embossing folders; it just seemed to be the right thing to do.
Adding mats in Blackberry Bliss and Fresh Freesia helps to reinforce the colour choice, and a few of my favourite InColor Jewels added just the right amount of sparkle to complete the project.
