Sweet As A Peach – Make Your Own Patterned Paper. I am going to be anything other than modest about this project. I made it as one of the Team Challenge Projects, for the Make Your Own Patterned Paper Challenge and I love it. It was the first time I really looked at the Sweet as a Peach Stamp Set and matching Suite elements. As a starting point, I decided to use the colours from the matching Patterned Paper, You’re a Peach.
What I worked out is that the leaves match up to both the three flowers AND the three peaches stamps. I am sure everyone already knows that, but I just thought how clever it is. So, I used the leaves in second generation Pear Pizzazz, with second generation Pale Papaya flowers. I added the centres of the flowers in full strength Bumblebee and used the same stamp to add some second generation Balmy Blue in some of the gaps. This is just a subtle addition, but it helped tie everything together.
Having made my patterned paper, I just needed to decide how I would finish the card off. I started with everything in Landscape, but it really didn’t seem to come together properly. Portrait just ‘worked’. I added some Pale Papaya Ribbon, which adds a feature, but because it is transparent, it allows the pattern of the paper to show through.
I have been meaning to pull out the Painted Labels Dies for a while, and this project is perfect for the circular one. Cutting the die from Pale Papaya Glimmer Vellum adds another transparent element as well as a subtle shimmer. This was the perfect base for the peach feature element, layered on Balmy Blue and Basic White.
A small sentiment in Balmy Blue ink seemed the perfect addition to the feature element, especially on the sentiment die from the die set. I love that the ends are at an angle. A few of the Adhesive Backed Blue Gems finished the project of well, again tying the Balmy Blue into the project. The addition of this colour really lifts the overall finish of the project without being obvious. I think the Balmy Blue of the original Designer Series Paper is a very cleaver addition. Without it the papers would have been pretty, but would have missed the ‘pop’ the Balmy Blue brings.
What do you think? do you like the addition of the Balmy Blue or do you think it is an un-necessary addition? I would love to hear what you think, so why not leave a comment?
