Butterfly Bouquet – Facebook Live Replay 2nd March 2021. I am so glad to be back to, most of, my usual schedule. It has been a rough few weeks at Old Stables Crafts HQ. First I got Covid and then, not wishing to be accused of not being generous, I gave it to my husband. Unfortunately he is still quite ill with it. He is in good spirits, but he just can’t seem to kick the temperature into touch just yet. But enough of that, let’s take a look at my Facebook Live from yesterday.
Yesterday saw the Pre-Launch of the Butterfly Brilliance Bundle that will feature in the next Annual Catalogue (published in May), but more than that. The Pre-Launch also includes the Butterfly Bijou 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper Pack AND the Natural Touch Specialty Paper. These are strictly available while stocks last, or until 3 May, which ever happens first. This is not a set of papers to miss, they are stunning. A great mix of Butterflies (both large and small) as well as some stunning watercolour effect backgrounds.
It was with the mix of paper patterns in mind that was the basis for todays cards. They both use the same paper, just the A and B sides, and both feature a large Swallowtail Butterfly on the front. For these cards, I used one of my favourite designs for 6 x 6 paper packs, a simple 3″ strip of paper covering the full length of the front of a standard A6 Card Base.
I added a strip of Foil either side of the paper for some added fun and embellishment. I used the Rococo Rose and Sahara Sand Foils from the Love You Always Foil Pack. A simple strip of Tear & Tape on the reverse of the foil, then trim half the width of the Tear & Tape using the trimmer. Keep the foil shiny side down so you don’t scratch the foil.
The Butterfly on the front of the first version of my card uses an intricate Die Cut Swallowtail Butterfly, cut in Basic Black, backed with a solid Vellum Butterfly. I only adhered the middle of the vellum and Basic Black Butterflies, but did add some small Black Dimensionals to the underside of the Basic Black version. The addition of the Dimensionals helps to keep the wings from lying flat on the front of the card.
The second version switched the vellum for some of the Natural Touch Specialty Paper. This time I stuck the whole of the Natural Touch Butterfly to the front of the card, I still added Black Dimensionals to the underside of the Basic Black die cut.
The finishing touch for both cards was to add some of the Matt Black Dots. For the Butterfly paper version I sprinkled the dots around the card front. These ended up in a diagonal splatter from top left to bottom left, using 5 in total (I like my odd numbers!) For the other version, I added the same five Mat Black Dots to the body of the butterfly.
I hope you enjoyed the cards and will take a look at the video of how I made them. It is a shorter Facebook Live than usual because I still tire very quickly, but at least I am progressing. I hope you give this card layout a go, it is a great way of making your supplies go a really long way. 72 card fronts from one pack of 6×6″ Paper is not bad going!
