Woodland Wonder for The Spot Challenge #150. It’s time for us to look at Birthday cards at The Spot, so there is no excuse for not taking part. We all need birthday cards on hand, after all. As I have just taken delivery of my main order from the January to June Mini Catalogue, I have lots of goodies to choose from.
I opted for the Woodland Wonders Stamp Set, which is just so cute and I already had a project planned in my head, so simply had to convert that to paper. It is based very loosely on one of the samples in that catalogue. I wanted there to be fold/steps in my card so that when the card is folded up, it looks like the tree is not that tall. It also looks like there is just a bunny and a bird in the tree.
Open the card up, and you then see that it is actually a very tall tree, with lots of animals making the most of the truck. They are all so adorable, what’s not to love about them?
I have done my best to describe how I made the card, further down this post. But, it is basically a W fold, with a small card at the back, with space inside to write your message. The front pieces simply stand in front.
Or you can have the main element of the card on a shelf with the other pieces hanging over the edge. This works perfectly if you have the racoon and owl lying flat on the shelf, with just the bunny hanging down.
The colouring was not complicated at all. This is a simplistic image, so there is no need for subtle shading and blending , simple block colouring is the order of the day.
So, what do you think? Would you give this a go? Even if you don’t make a Birthday card with the same fold that I have used, I do hope you will have a go at the Challenge and enter. Simply Click HERE or on the cupcake image at the top of the page to go to The Spot Challenge Website and add your entry.

Dimensions
My card was made to fit the stamping, so is not specific to International A4 or North American Letter Card size. I started by stamping the 3 tree stamps so they joined up on one piece of White card and then trimmed it to width. The width is slightly wider than the top of the tree, in my case this is about 3-1/4″ (8.3cm). For a bit of contrast, I added a narrow strip of Mango Melody to both sides. I trimmed the length so it was about 8″ (20cm) and then cut the length into 3 pieces. The bottom 2 pieces are each 2″ (5cm) leaving the top piece at 4″ (10cm). To make the card base, I simply took a piece of card and cut it in half lengthwise. Starting from the bottom, I scored at 2″ (5cm), 4″ (10 cm) and cut at 8″ (20cm). The back of the card is taken from the other half of the card, which I trimmed to 4-1/2″ (11.5cm) and scored at 4″ (10cm) before attaching this to the back of the card front. Simply add the 3 stamped pieces to the front on the card in order.
