Crafting with Liz Yuille – Today we are using A Good Man. To continue my celebration of National ‘Virtual’ Hug Day yesterday, my YouTube Live Featured the A Good Man stamp set and some quick blending and colouring techniques.
I started by stamping my chosen image onto some masking paper (full coverage Sticky Note), before fussy cutting it slightly in from the end of the stamp. Making the mask slightly smaller than the stamped image avoids the possibility of a ‘halo’ effect round the image after blending.
Next I stamped the image on my White Mat in Tuxedo Black Ink. While that was drying I coloured my Ribbon with a Stampin’ Blend in a matching shade. I found for my two colour schemes that Dark Soft Sea Foam and Light Misty Moonlight worked best. This was then left to dry and I moved back to my stamped image, covering it with the mask.
Using one of our new Blending Brushes, I added a light layer of colour over the mask to form a soft background for the stamped image. To make sure you avoid any marks, start on top of the mask and work out. Build the colour up gradually, you can always add more if you want. Once the shade is as you want it, carefully remove the mask to reveal our clean white stamped image.
My colouring was very simple, I just used the Dark Blends for the man’s clothes and the Light Blends for the child’s, using Ivory and Bronze for the other areas. Using Ivory both underneath and on top of the Bronze gave me a slightly lighter shade of hair for the child. Now comes the slightly tricky part; stamping the sentiment. In the So Sentimental stamp set the full stamp says ‘Sending Healing Hugs’, but I didn’t want ‘Healing’. So, I held my breath and inked up each word separately, one at a time. You can see exactly how in the video.
I am not always very good at remembering to stamp on the inside of the card, but today I remembered. I simply inked up the same image in the appropriate ink and stamped the very top of it at the bottom right hand corner. Then I simply put my card together, placing the ribbon once the stamped layer had been adhered to the Flowers for Every Season Designer Series Paper.
So, what do you think? I hope you like the cards, why not have a look at the video to see how I made the Balmy Blue and Misty Moonlight Version. Although it is a Live, the video is not as long as many of them, and remember, you can always fast forward through the chat at the start!
