Nothing’s Better Than? Coffee of Course! And using up Christmas Patterned Paper. In my mission to spend some time looking at the Annual Catalogue, I also thought I would use up some of my Designer Series Paper. So many of our Christmas Papers have ‘generic’ patterns included and the Pointsettia Place Paper is a case in point. I love the wood design on the reverse of the berry pattern.
I have always been a fan of all wood patterns, and this one is just so versatile. Other than cutting into a whole sheet, I had just enough to cut a smaller layer for this card. I kept with some of the colours in the papers, even though my main colour, Bumblebee, is not actually in the pattern I am using. Knowing it is in the other patterns gives me the confidence to use it here. I stamped two cups with 2nd generation ink and one with full strength. It was the full strength that I placed in the middle on a Dimensional.
Paired with Soft Suede, rather than Early Espresso, which is the brown in the paper, it gives a real softness to the card. If you follow the Retro Feel of the Coffee Cups you can end up with a slightly hard feel to your design, but by choosing the palette I have, as well as the curves of the wood, really acts as a contrast. The Gingham Ribbon is the finishing touch to the softness, although the pattern on the ribbon is linier, the fabric does provide some additional softness.
Before I die cut the words I added adhesive sheet to the reverse of the Gold Foil and Soft Suede card, before cutting one each in Gold Foil and two each of the Soft Suede. I layered them up to give some dimension to the words, this is a very simple technique, but makes such a difference to the finished words, making them (literally and metaphorically) stand out from the layer.
