How to Make Cards using True Love Papers PLUS an Introduction to Gilded Leafing and Heat & Stick. Am I the only person who sees black and white printed paper as an opportunity to start colouring? I had a lot of fun during yesterday’s Facebook Live colouring two of the papers in the new True Love Designer Series Paper.
Before starting the cards I used the new Many Messages Bundle to make lots of sentiments that I can then use on cards in the coming weeks. I Heat Embossed some in White on Basic Black and stamped another set in Memento Tuxedo Black on White. Having these sentiments ready is a great way to know that you can make some quick cards in the coming weeks.
The first card I made uses one of the large florals, which I coloured with So Saffron and Soft Seafoam Stampin’ Blends before fussy cutting them. I selected a Basic Black Card Base with So Saffron Mat and Designer Series Paper layers. The So Saffron layer is offset to provide some visual interest, but the Designer Series Paper is layered square on the card.
Adding the fussy cut flowers and sentiment with Dimensionals is simple and certainly makes a huge impact, but adding some of my favourite Elegant Faceted Gems is the icing on the cake.
My second card is much brighter and used the light Magenta Madness Stampin Blend and the Dark Just Jade Stampin Blend. I only coloured a few of the flowers and leaves, but you could colour the whole piece if you wished.
I used a Magenta Madness Card Base with a Basic Black layer to help the patterned paper ‘pop’ from the background. Adding Magenta Madness Ribbon shows just how amazing the Stampin’ Up! Colour Co-ordination is. Bright pink is a very difficult colour to match so you get enough blue or red in the shade, but Stampin’ Up! has it down pat. I used the same Elegant Faceted Gems around the sentiment. These really are some of my favourite embellishments for a very long time.
I used the rest of the time to show how to use the new Gilding Flakes. I have used similar products in the past, but am thrilled that Stampin’ Up! now has them.
My first sample uses Versamark ink and the new Heat & Stick Powder. This is like an embossing powder, but instead of leaving a smooth shiny finish, the powder melts and leaves a sticky finish, perfect for the Gilding Flakes. I have decanted a VERY small amount of the flakes into a plastic box to try to stop it flying everywhere. If you have long hair, please tie it back before you use the flakes, even a slight breeze will have them flying everywhere.
My second sample also uses Versamark, but no stamp. I just rubbed the ink pad across some Basic Black card before adding Heat & Stick Powder and Gilding Flakes. I love this finish, so if, like me, you are a fan of a bit of grunge, why not give that a go. However you use the flakes, I can highly recommend using a small piece of Stampin’ Sponge to help add and ‘polish’ the flakes onto your project.
My final version uses TomBow Multipurpose Liquid Glue. This dries to a slightly tacky finish, so is perfect to use with the Gilding Flakes. With a little practise you can write messages, sign your name, or simply draw shapes. Something I want to try is die cutting or punching shapes from Adhesive Sheets. I am sure these would give an amazing finish!
