How to Make a Double Thickness Lidded Box Your Choice, Snowflake Splendour or Poinsettia Place. I think that is the longest title I have ever had for a post! I just couldn’t think of a shorter way to describe the box, and I am not sure I have succeeded any way. What I am trying to say is that, rather than cutting the paper for the lid of the box so the cut edge is at the bottom of the lid, I have added some extra card on and folded it to the inside. This not only looks more professional, it also adds to the strength of the box.
I ended up making three of these boxes, one original, then one to photograph the steps and the one I made during the video. So I will have lots of gift boxes ready for Christmas Presents. In the next few days I will be launching my next Class in the Mail which will have a variety of Christmas projects in it, other than cards, which I have already done classes for. Keep your eyes peeled and remember that this will be announced in my Newsletter first, so don’t forget to sign up for that.
This was my first box, which has a Pacific Point Base. I love that this is such a non-traditional colour, but it still works! It is also fantastic for winter birthdays, be they before or after Christmas. One of the great joys of the Snowflake Splendour Paper is that it is genuinely NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS! I used the Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon from the Annual Catalogue to finish the box off. I think we forget that there is an Annual Catalogue sometimes, but I urge you to remember that it is packed full of amazing products.
The Poinsettia Place Box is the one I made so I could take photos of the paper and card after I had done all the scoring and trimming, but before I stuck the pieces together. This is probably the box that has the most Christmas feel to it, from the three. The specific design on this paper is not one of my favourites for cards, but for a Gift Box it seems to work. Before I forget, here are the pictures, mid make:
This is the base of the box, you will see that I have used the ‘Catherine Wheel’ cut for this, cutting each flap in the same way and in the same direction.
The base is also cut in the ‘Catherine Wheel’, but you will see that each edge also has an extra piece. This is the piece that is folded into the lid after the flaps have been joined to the sides. I promise you it will make sense when you watch the video!
My final box, which is the one I made in the video, is all Pool Party and uses another ribbon from the Annual Catalogue. This time I have moved the bow to one corner, just for a different look.
I would love you to let me know which is your favourite box, and would you only use the Snowflake Splendour for Christmas, or would you be tempted to use it for a winter Birthday? I know I will be!
