How to Make a Christmas Card using Stitched Stars Dies and Dry Brush Stamp. Today’s card is quite different from the cards I shared yesterday and on my Facebook Business Page. But, it still uses the Stitched Star Dies from the Annual Catalogue. I have chosen to make a rustic card today. This rustic look is very popular at the moment and is a bit of a nod to the Nordic look that has been so popular in the last few years.
I chose to stamp with Cinnamon Cider on Crumb Cake card, but was not totally happy with the look of full strength ink, but I liked the warmth that the Cinnamon Cider brings to the project. An easy fix, second generation ink, removing the first, intense, layer of ink, but still leaving the warmth I was after. Whether you need to do this will depend on just how juicy your particular ink pad is, so do a test run first. I used my Stamparatus, so I could re-stamp if it was too feint. To soften the look a little, I added a layer of Vellum that is slightly smaller than the Crumb Cake layer. This allows the recipient to see the darker card, while giving the card a slightly frosted look.
I repeated the stamping and vellum layer for the star, but with the star I die cut two the same size and then slightly offset the vellum one. Of course, using vellum brings its problems, but by adding the star in the middle of the card, you have a few anchor points where you can add adhesive. To provide more areas for adhesive AND to add some more interest and movement to the project, I die cut some of the smallest stars, which I then layered up, before adhering to the vellum. I could then lift the vellum and add a small dot of adhesive underneath. The alternative would be to add the adhesive, and then add the stars to hide it! A few Adhesive Backed Snowflakes also provided some areas to hide glue.
I added the Crumb Cake layer to the Thick Whisper White Card Base at a slight angle, just for added interest. To finish the card, I stamped ‘merry’ and ‘christmas’ from the Peace and Joy stamp set, again, using Cinnamon Cider ink, but this time full strength. I cut these by hand before adding them to the star. These are placed so they are lined up straight on the card, which makes the eye feel more comfortable. And, of course, the final touch was a small bow of three pieces of Linen Thread, with a mini glue dot behind. Such a simple card, but so different.
