Festive Post meets #SimpleStamping Saturday. With only a week until Halloween, I thought I would share a Halloween project for this week’s #SimpleStamping Saturday projects. As ever, this is one project idea made three ways, from Quick and Easy through 2 Stepped Up versions. So let’s get started.
Quick and Simple
My Quick and Simple design could not be more simple. Just 2 of the stamps from the Festive Post Stamp Set from the current Mini Catalogue. One ink and a Note Card & Envelope. The ink I chose is Blackberry Bliss, a really deep purple, so dark that it can almost be used in place of Basic Black. In fact I use it as Basic Black with a twist!
For some reason, as you will see in today’s video, I find it much easier to stamp these images with the card on its side. I don’t know why, but probably so I can get the placement exactly where I want it, especially as I wanted the broom handles to be straight.
My #SimpleStamping projects always include an idea for decorating the envelope as well as the card. Today I have added lots of brooms to the flap of the envelope. A piece of scrap paper will be a great help with this so you keep the other areas of the envelope free from stamping.
Stepped Up Version
To step up this card I added coloured card. I took the colour inspiration from the Magic in This Night Designer Series Paper. I know I keep saying this, but it is my favourite Halloween paper ever. First it has some stunning designs, but it also has designs that are great for non Halloween Projects. Anyway, that is where I got the combination of Blackberry Bliss and Cajun Craze. Oh, and remember it is one of the packs in the Designer Series Paper Sale! Order it before the end of October and save 15%
I decided to heat emboss the brooms for this version. Although we don’t have Blackberry Bliss Embossing Powder, you can emboss in any colour on White card. Simply ink your stamp with Versamark, then the ink colour of your choice. This will ensure that the ink is wet long enough to add Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder. It won’t harm your coloured ink pad, so don’t worry.
I stamped the brooms on the Blackberry Bliss mat with Blackberry Bliss ink for a subtle Tone on Tone pattern. The brooms and a piece of Black Glitter Paper have been punched using the Rectangular Postage Stamp Punch. I also added some of the Metallic Mesh Ribbon and the stunning Iridescent Pearls.
Stepped Up Again
For my final version I added more Black Glitter Paper and embossed this and the Blackberry Bliss Mat with the Cobwebs Embossing folder for a subtle texture.
I liked the look, but thought there was something missing. I remembered that there is a great spider die in the Little Treat Box Die set, so pulled that and some Silver Foil. Of course I had to add even more Iridescent Pearls to that!
So what do you think? Which is your favourite? I would love to hear from you. I would also like to know if you make any Halloween cards. It is not a huge ‘thing’ in the UK, but I think it is increasing each year. Do let me know.
