Facebook Live Replay Tuesday 6th October 2020 – Game On. I thought I would take advantage of the Designer Series Paper Sale that is on at the moment. Plus I thought I would address those really difficult cards – MEN! We all struggle with these, so I have taken the bull by the horns and made four great cards using almost every stamp in the Game On Stamp Set. What was frightening is that I had even planned the cards before I started my Live event!
While I remember, if you want to know more about what I am doing and when I am doing it, don’t forget to sign up to my Newsletter, just click HERE to fill the form out. If you are in the UK and provide me with your full Postal Address and Birthdate I will even send you a Birthday Card!
Red and White Chessmen
The first card we made yesterday was this cute little card using the Chess pieces. As these are often in Red and White, I decided to colour a few with Real Red Stampin’ Blends. The colouring is SO simple because the stamps already have shading included. I simply used the built in shading to guide me to using the dark blend there and the light blend everywhere else. Generally I will colour a whole area in the light shade first and then add the dark shade, blending the edges with the light one again.
The patterned paper is from the Plaid Tidings Paper Pack. Selecting one of the black and white patterns makes it easy to add colour using different elements. Because I am using Stampin’ Up! products, I know that all the Real Red products will be the same shade of red. I used Card, Ink, Braided Linen Trim and Stampin’ Blends, they are all the same red!
Packs of Cards
My next card is still using Real Red, but this time the paper is from the Tis’ the Season Paper from the Mini Catalogue. Rather than cutting the paper to size before starting the card, for this card I adhered the paper to the front of the card base and then cut it down. When I do this I always start by lining up the paper to the top and one side of the card base. Once this is in place I use my Paper Snips to trim the paper to size from the back of the card.
What was a great suggestion from one of the ladies who joined me Live, was to change the black cards to Spades, simply by adding a line to the hearts. Fantastic idea and so easy for everyone to achieve. A little fussy cutting and the cards are ready to add to the front of the card. After stamping the sentiment I punched the card using the Banners Pick a Punch and then layered it on a piece of Basic Black, also punched with the Banners Pick a Punch. A few Basic Rhinestones finish the card off.
Lots of Dice on a Roll
This is a really simple card to put together. Although I used a die to stamp the Dice on, but it would look just as effective if you simply cut a rectangle. The paper is from In Good Taste mounted on Gray Granite card on a Night of Navy Card Base.
All of the stamping is in Night of Navy, so great for new stampers.
Monochrome Chessmen
Although this looks like I stamped using Tuxedo Black ink, actually I used Basic Gray. This gives a much softer image, but still a really distinctive one. One of the main tips I would give when using stamps to make a background, please stamp off the edge of the card. When you cut patterned paper the pattern will ‘fall’ off the edge of the card, so if you are making your own, then please stamp over the edge.
The Chessmen image is simply fussy cut, it is not a difficult image to cut. The trick I then use is to run a Stampin’ Blend around the edge of the cut image. In this case I used Smoky Slate, but I also ran this around the edge of the areas I did NOT fussy cut. This simple step works so well to help the image ‘pop’.
Which is YOUR Favourite?
I would love to know which of the cards is your favourite. Although they are all from the same stamp set, I think they are all a little different from each other and likely to attract different people. Please let me know in the comments at the bottom of this post.

Shock horror!!! I know not everyone likes the same type of video, so if you want a video that is edited to within an inch of its life, I assure you this will not be what you find here!
