Facebook Live Replay – 13th October 2020 – Press On. I had great fun at my regular Facebook Live yesterday, although I didn’t manage to make that may cards (only 2!). But we all had a great chat, shared tips and tricks. I even managed to answer one follower’s question ‘How do you come up with your designs’ by showing exactly who. There really is no process, I just start a project and see where it takes me. To see exactly what I mean, take a look at the Facebook Live Replay further down this post.
The cards I did manage to make were using the Press On Stamp Set from the current Mini Catalogue. I have been looking at the half star burst for weeks trying to work out what it was for and whether I was missing something. I think the answer is that I have been missing something because, guess what, the stamp fits perfectly on the largest of the straight Layering Circle Dies!!
Subtles Press On Card
That was all I needed to get me started with my first card. This used colours from the Subtles Colour Family, So Saffron, Pool Party and a tiny amount of Calypso Coral. I stamped the Star Burst on the Circle Die Cut twice and then layered that on a scalloped circle of Champagne Foil. This was the prefect soft metallic for the card.
The So Saffron layer is embossed with the Tasteful Texture 3D Embossing Folder. Using any embossing folder is great way to take a ‘flat’ piece of card and make it something special. It is the perfect option if you don’t want to have a full pattern on the layer. I am a great fan of Designer Series Paper and Background Stamps, or making your own stamped background, but sometimes you just want something subtle.
I coloured the row of coffee cups with So Saffron and Pool Party Stampin’ Blends, with the heart in Dark Calypso Coral. The row of coffee cups trim down to 1 inch perfectly, so I pulled out my Banners Pick a Punch to shape the ends. When I looked at the result I was not happy, it was just too short. No worries, I grabbed a piece of Pool Party card and used the same punch. I cut the Pool Party in half and added it behind the Whisper White. Perfect! I was happy. The banner was added over the star burst with Dimensionals and then I added some Elegant Faceted Gems. Done
Neutrals Press On Card
For my next card I decided to use Very Vanilla for the stamping, so was then drawn to the Neutrals Colour Family. I stamped the 2 images on the Very Vanilla card, using Early Espresso for the cup and Soft Suede for the steam/sentiment. Because I wanted some colour on the card, just not too much, I went for Misty Moonlight. I love the look of the slightly dusky navy against Soft Suede. I think these are a match made in heaven. The Soft Suede was embossed using the Brick & Mortar 3D Embossing Folder.
I decided that the cup would be in shadow on the left side , so layered the colour more here. To pick out where the light would fall on the front of the cup, I used the Color Lifter. Of course I fussy cut both stamped elements, because I LOVE to fussy cut. These shapes are not too challenging to hand cut.
Now, I am not a great fan of images ‘floating’ on a card. I like them to be grounded, so with this in mind I added Misty Moonlight ribbon across at about 1/3 from the bottom. So it looked like the ribbon was tied in a knot, I added a separate piece to the left of the cup, simply tying the short piece in a half knot around the piece I had adhered. This is a much easier way of getting the look of tying the ends together than actually doing so. Of course I had to add some more of the Elegant Faceted Gems to finish the card off. I love the clear ones, which can be used on any colour to add some sparkle.
Which card do you prefer? I think the Subtles on is perfect for your coffee loving girl friends and the Neutrals on would be ideal for your male friends. Please let me know who you would send each of them to. I would love to know.
