Zany Zebras Enjoying Mountain Air. I must start by saying that this card is TOTALLY inspired by one I saw from Sara Levin when I was looking for a project of hers to CASE for The Spot Challenge earlier this week. You can see that project HERE. I love the Zany Zebras, but when I saw her card had transformed them into wild horses, I knew I would have to give it a go.
The first task was to make masks for the three images, which I did using paper similar to sticky notes, but with the sticky part across the whole of the paper. I simply stamped the images and fussy cut them going slightly inside the lines of the stamping to reduce any halo from stamping over the mask. PLEASE NOTE I did NOT fussy cut the tails, there is a limit, and they were it. I knew they would be coloured with a dark Stampin’ Blend, so I really wasn’t worried. Once the masks were ready, I stamped the far left and far right images, masked the far right one before stamping the middle one overlapping slightly.
Before you stamp the background you need to add the remaining two masks. Now, with Shaded Spruce and the long tree image from Mountain Air, I stamped across the card and the zebras. Press really hard to reduce any halo. Clean your stamp and turn it over so the solid side is facing up. Stamp over the Shaded Spruce using Mossy Meadow. Now you just need to blend the rest of the background. I used Old Olive and Soft Suede, using the Soft Suede towards the front and the Old Olive below the tree line. I made sure to blend away any halo that was showing around the masks.
The sky is Seaside Spray. I deliberately left the sky uneven so it would look like wispy clouds. I had no plan to add the birds, but I managed to add a fingerprint in the wrong place, so birds came to the rescue. These are easy to add with a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker.
The final part was to colour the zebras. First I removed the masks (obviously) and have kept them in the stamp box for next time. I used Crumb Cake and Soft Suede to colour them and then added the shadow under each of them with light Soft Suede and Dark Crumb Cake.
