Day 7 – Halloween or Christmas? You Choose – Gnome for the Holidays. WOW! We are already half way through my ‘Halloween or Christmas? – You Choose’ mini series 13 days of projects, each made for Halloween and Christmas, simply be changing a few of the products, but all using the main product. Today is the turn of Gnome for the Holidays. I have already made a project that showed that this was not just for Christmas, but this time I am making it work for Halloween.
Halloween?
I have made 2 Halloween versions as this is, obviously, the one that is not so obvious. I have to say I had a great time making all of them. But for Halloween I have used the Cobwebs 3D Embossing Folder with the Stitched So Sweetly Die Cut. To make the Cobwebs very obvious I inked up the raised cobweb before I added the card and ran it though my Cut & Emboss. Every time I remember to use this technique I tell myself to remember to use it more often. It is such a great way of making the Embossing folder do more work, and show off how amazing the pattern is.
To get the Gnomes to look less jolly and Christmas, I inked the stamps up using a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to exclude the obvious Christmas references, like snowflakes and baubles. You do need to leave the ink to dry really well before you colour with your Blends or it will smudge. The only ‘difficult’ colouring was the skin. I wanted the gnomes to have a green hue to them. The easiest way to do this is to lay down some Ivory Ink first and then, using the Ivory Blend, just touch it against the Shaded Spruce one. This will allow the Ivory pen to pick up a tiny amount of the green ink, which you can then blend out.
I hope you can see that on both cards I added some Iridescent Pearls and some Clear Wink of Stella. I did need to bring in another Stamp set for the sentiment, so pulled the Banner Year set for the ‘Happy Haunting’ sentiment.
Or Christmas?
The Christmas version of the card is much quicker to achieve, not least of all because you can ink up the whole of the stamps. The only slightly trick part is the Winter Snow Embossing folder. I wanted to try using Versamark and Silver Stampin Emboss Powder. You do have to be careful not to over ink the folder, especially as it is not a 3D folder. But it worked, the Versamark got into most of the areas I wanted. What is more important is that the areas I wanted to not have powder, mostly, didn’t and I could brush away any excess. I have added a LOT of Holiday Rhinestones to the Gnomes’ hats. I think it is pretty obvious that this is a Christmas project!
You know what I am going to ask you now! Which do you prefer? Are you leaning towards the Halloween versions, or are you sticking with the Christmas one? Whichever your choice, please let me know either in the comments here, or over on my YouTube Channel. I hope you are beginning to see that with a little ‘outside the box’ thinking you can use your products for more than the obvious.
Video Tutorial Time!
Please don’t freak out at the list of items I used. This is everything I used for the 3 projects, so is not what you would need for just one!
