#SimpleStamping Saturday – Don’t Stop Believin’ – In Honour of Olaf. Was I the only person who thought of Olaf from Frozen when I saw the Don’t Stop Believin’ Stamp Set? The melted Snowman instantly made me think of the lines from ‘In Summer’ – Winter’s a good time to cuddle, put me in Summer and I’ll be a…….happy Snowman – or NOT! So today’s #SimpleStamping Saturday projects are in honour of Olaf.
Quick and Simple Version
As with all my #SimpleStamping Saturday projects, I have started with a Quick and Easy Note Card, using a Whisper White Note Card this week. I stamped the sentiment and melted ‘Olaf’ in Memento Tuxedo Black and then coloured the image using Watercolour Pencils. If you wish, you can use a Blender Pen to smooth out some of the shadows, but this is strictly optional.
As you will see from the images, this is a very simple image to colour, and takes just a few moments, but the finished result is so effective.
Stepped Up Version
My first stepped up version introduces a second stamp set, and the matching punch. The Snowman Season Stamp set and Snowman Builder Punch were in the last Autumn/Winter Catalogue and are now in the Annual, so may be overlooked with all the excitement of the new August – December Mini. I moved the melted ‘Olaf’ to the inside of the card, with the solid version on the outside. I did ‘doctor’ the sentiment a little by adding a few ….. at the end. Of course, when you open the card you understand why the …..
I added a few Adhesive Snowflakes just to add to the fun of the outside of the card. If you don’t have Early Espresso or Pumpkin Pie card for the arms and nose of your ‘Olaf’ you can simply stamp them and colour them with Stampin’ Blends.
The addition of some light ink blending for the hills behind ‘Olaf’ really bring this card to life. It is such a great effect, and really not difficult. I used a Sponge Dauber with Seaside Spray ink (plus a very small amount of glycerine to help keep the blending smooth), and made a template for the hills from a scrap of card (junk mail is perfect for this!) Just move the card around the page to build up the hills and use a VERY gentle hand.
Because the Don’t Stop Believin’ stamp set refers to hot Cocoa, I thought I would add the small mug from the Warm Hugs Bundle for my final version. I used the Bronze Stampin’ Blend for the Cocoa.
This is the inside of both stepped up versions. Simple stamping and colouring with Stampin’ Blends again. I love the humour of these cards and hope that Olaf will not be too upset to see what could happen if he has hot cocoa!
