Nothing’s Better Than Cocktail Inked Background – Lots of Hints and Tips Along the Way. I hope you have had a fantastic weekend. In the UK today is a Bank Holiday, which is just as well for me, as I spent the past few day attending the Virtual Stampin’ Up! Leaders’ Summit. This had been planned as an in person event, but with the current situation, Stampin Up transferred it to an online platform. The only downside for those of us outside of the USA, was that the timings were a little challenging. In the UK the days started at 7pm and finished at about 2am to following morning. Happily, because the event was online, we have the opportunity to watch all the sessions back, including the ones we were unable to attend. I am so excited by this and am looking forward to sharing lots of the information and insights with my wonderful Team.
But enough of that, you are here to look at my project, well I hope you are. I have been doing quite a lot of ink blending recently, I love how easy it is to build up the colour with our highly pigmented inks. I know there is a trend at the moment to use blending brushes, but did you know you can get a similar effect with a simple Sponge Dauber and a small amount of Glycerine? That’s right, the gloopy stuff you find in the supermarket baking aisle. Just a tiny amount on your Sponge Dauber will help you get a really smooth result, avoiding the hard edges that can spoil a project.
The mask was simply cut using a piece of scrap card and the largest Layering Oval Die. I tend to work from light to dark and then go back over each of the colours, paying most attention to the overlap between them. It comes together in a matter of minutes, but is such an effective way of adding some interest to your backgrounds.
I stamped the sentiment in Tuxedo Black on a scrap of paper and cut it down with both my trimmer and my snips. For some real contrast, I added both the glass and sentiment to an oval from the Stitched Shapes. The gold thread behind the black oval are from the gold trim in the Forever Greenery Trim Combo.
The finishing touch is just one of the clear gems from the Elegant Faceted Gems Pack, my absolute favourite embellishments at the moment.
