Gilded Autumn Upside Down ‘Lidded’ Gift Box. I have been looking at the inspiration for this box for a while now. I found it on Pinterest and try as I might, I can’t find who posted the original picture, let alone who made the original. So, this is not an original idea and I would love to know if it was yours!
I have called it an Upside Down ‘Lidded’ Gift Box, because that is literally what it is. It is a standard gift box, but the larger part is at the bottom, with the smaller part sitting inside it. To me, that is an upside down box! I decided to use the Gilded Autumn Specialty Designer Series Paper for no other reason than the original had hearts punched out and I wanted a small punch to replicate the look. The Autumn Punch Pack is perfect. I have changed the trim at the top of the box a little.
The original had a loop, but I worry that would suggest that you can hang the box. Not a great idea if it has something heavy and/or fragile in it! I can see the bottom slipping off and the contents spread across the floor. I chose the Copper Trim from the Gilded Autumn Suite, pierced a hole in the middle of the top and fed the trim through. To make sure the trim stay put, I tied a double knot on the inside and a single on the outside. For the acorn version I punched the outer layer BEFORE I made the outer section up. This allows you to push the punch in a little further, so the punched element can be central in all directions.
Had I realised that before I made up my second box, the oak leaves would have been further down! But, at least we both now know that you can still use the punch even if you forget until after you have made up the box base. I toyed with having Mint Macaron oak leaves, but settled on Crumb Cake instead. Both the Oak Leaves and the Acorns were stamped with Early Espresso Ink. The top of the acorns used second generation ink.
To make sure that the punched elements line up with the outer box, I added them while the 2 parts of the box were together. I found a mini glue dot, with a spot of liquid adhesive on the stalk, was the easiest way to get these fixed in place. Just push them through the negative space on the outer box and then take the box apart so you can reinforce the placement with a bone folder.
I hope you enjoyed this slightly different take on a two piece, lidded box and will give it a try. If you do give it a try, please share your project with me. You can always join my Facebook Community Page – Old Stables Crafty Hangout – we love to share projects there and anyone can join.
