All Things Fabulous Team Colour Challenge. If you have followed me for any length of time, you probably know that I love a good Creative Challenge, so I am thrilled to share this Team Colour Challenge with you. One of the other members of the Team chose the colours, not ones I would ever have put together! This was definitely going to be a challenge!!
I decided I wanted to use the All Things Fabulous Bundle for my project, so the first thing I had to work out was how to get the 3 shades of each of the colour. This actually was not as difficult as I had assumed, especially as I work from darkest to lightest with all my layering stamps. Not only is it much easier to see the darker colours through a lighter colour on the photopolymer stamps, but by starting dark and adding lighter shades, you also intensify the darker colour. I decided that I would use Blushing Bride and Balmy Blue for the flowers, but Just Jade was still an issue for me.
Just Jade is a great colour, but I really could not see it working with the other two colours. I was happy to add it in Ribbon and as a layer, but otherwise, not so much. Then I wondered how it would look in Vellum. I use Blends to make coloured vellum often, so this was not a new idea. Well, it worked perfectly, so that problem was solved and I used the lace and foliage dies with the coloured Vellum (watch the video for a quick tutorial on colouring vellum). I heat embossed the sentiment in White on a narrow piece of Just Jade and then fussy cut it before layering it on top of the ribbon.
Alternative Colours
Rather than simply replicating the same colour scheme for my Tutorial, I decided to challenge myself to a two colour challenge with Rococo Rose and Flirty Flamingo. The flowers layered nicely, but when it came to colouring the vellum, I hit a challenge. The Rococo Rose Blends are VERY bright, not what I was looking for. Flirty Flamingo was not much better. Then I turned my Vellum over – good news that the reverse of Dark Rococo Rose hit the spot.
For ribbon, I used the Rococo Rose Scalloped Linen Ribbon and, as this is wider than the original, simply trimmed my piece of Rococo Rose card so it was narrower than the ribbon, rather than fussy cutting. I used the Banners Pick a Punch to shape the right hand end so it was less harsh than a straight cut.
I guess the question to ask now is which version I prefer. To be honest, I think I like the original. It seems to be more cohesive somehow. I would love to have your thoughts, so why not leave a comment here or on my video.
Video Tutorial Time
Before you watch today’s video I need to explain something. You probably know that my husband and I live in a small village in rural Oxfordshire. We love it here, but there are a few drawbacks. There is not much of a mobile signal (we have been here long enough to know where those are now) and our power can be a little erratic. It is better than it was, but we still get a few outages. A month ago we had 9 or 10 in the space of about 4 days. We were assured that this was just the high wind causing sparking of trees on the overhead cables and that it would be fixed ‘soon’. Well it still has not been fixed, because so far this week we have had 4 outages, one in the middle of me recording the video, so the lighting does suddenly drop part way through – sorry!
