Whale of a Time for The Spot #121 Sketch Challenge. How can another week have gone past already? Time seems to be flying at the moment. I wonder if it is partly because the weather, which started the summer really well, has now taken a turn for the worse. Do I think that time is flying because I still don’t feel like we have had a proper summer yet?
The Challenge
This week at The Spot, we have a Sketch Challenge for you. This is where your creative juices can run wild, just as long as there is a link between our sketch and your project. Flip it, Mirror it, Rotate it, Make a 3D item, we don’t mind as long as we can see how you got from our sketch to your project. I have stuck pretty closely to the sketch for my project. I took a while before I decided what I was going to make, then I spotted these jelly fish. They run diagonally across the paper, so are perfect for this diagonal sketch.
My Design Process
I have just received the Seabed 3D Embossing Folder, so I was keen to try it out. Having chosen the paper for the diagonal, that meant I could use the Embossing Folder for the rest of the card front. The Embossing Folder is 6″ square, so , as I didn’t want a frame around the card front, this was ideal. You will see the construction of the card in today’s video, so I won’t bore you with a description of that here.
Having placed the Designer Series Paper and embossed card on the front of my card base, something seemed to be missing. I was going to use Pretty Peacock for the mount of my Label, so I decided that some Pretty Peacock to highlight the diagonal was what was needed. I have done this a few times now, but let me remind you how easy this is to achieve. All you need to do is run a piece of Tear & Tape along the edge of your card, burnish is down well and trim the card to the width you want. The tape is 1/4″ wide, so a 1/8″ strip is easy to achieve. It was just what the edge of the diagonal needed.
I have already mentioned that I was planning on having a Pretty Peacock mount for my sentiment. I also used Pretty Peacock ink, It is the perfect foil for Balmy Blue. On the subject of which, I chose Balmy Blue because it is the background of the paper I had selected. So, using the Lovely Label Pick a Punch I gave the end of the sentiment and mat a pretty finish.
The Finishing Touches
I had to add a whale (punched from another of the Designer Series Paper patterns), but also wanted to have some of the jelly fish somewhere. Easy, the inside of the card was the perfect place for them. I added these using Bumblebee ink in first and second generation, following the diagonal of the card front. To emphasise the underwater theme, I chose to add some Frosted Epoxy Droplets from the Frosted & Clear Epoxy Droplets. Always an odd number, but this time, instead of my usual 3, I went for 5.
Video Tutorial Time
I hope you take a look at how I made the card, there are always hints and tips in my videos, so I hope they are time well spent.
