Prized Peony – Every Kind of Wonderful. Today is my wonderful niece’s birthday. She is one of the hardest working people I know. She recently finished her Bachelor’s and then her Master’s in Biological Sciences at University College London. For those of you not in the UK, this is one of the most prestigious Universities in the UK. It is ranked 8th in the world, 4th in Europe and 1st in London. This on its own would be amazing, but along side, she has started an Instagram Fashion Review Channel and is doing amazingly well at that too. I have no idea where she gets the energy from!
So, her Birthday card had to be something special that reflected her. She loves all things floral, so I thought I would pull my Prized Peony Suite of products. These have the right amount of floral, without being too ‘Laura Ashley’, if you know what I mean. I chose the Gray Granite and Whisper White floral paper as the main mat for the card, with the Petal Pink self pattern behind it. I could have used Petal Pink Card, but I like that the paper is not a true ‘solid’, even though only a small amount is showing.
The stamped images are in Gray Granite to allow for a softer look. Our Classic Inks are fine to use with Stampin’ Blends, as long as you leave them to dry fully first. The colouring is super easy, simply some So Saffron for the centres. For the petals I used layers of Light Petal Pink for the background, picked out the shaded areas with Dark Petal Pink and then blended the lines with more Light Petal Pink. The leaves are coloured in the same way, but with Old Olive Stampin’ Blends.
I added a length of Gray Granite ribbon as an ‘anchor point’ for all embellishment I had planned. Although it is not very visible, it adds an important design feature. Everything is added over the ribbon. The Vellum Doilies are a must, they add such an elegant layer to the card. The final touch was my favourite embellishment of the year, Elegant Faceted Gems, in Petal Pink.
Having completed the outside of the card, it was time for the inside. I knew I wanted a small peony stamped and coloured, but I also wanted a sentiment. I didn’t want a flashy ‘Happy Birthday’, I wanted something more thoughtful. Walk in The Woods came to the rescue. You will have to watch the video to see what the sentiment says.
I hope you enjoyed your day. And don’t worry, the Jar punch is working fine now. I just had something caught in it.
