Coffee & Card Facebook Live 14th July 2020 – Replay – Whale Done and Playing with Patterns. I hope you are all having a great week so far, mine is going really well and of course yesterday I had my regular Coffee & Card Facebook Live, which is always fun. Today I am sharing it with everyone, so even those of you who don’t ‘do’ Facebook can take a look. And let me tell you that until I started my Business I didn’t ‘do’ Facebook either, so I totally understand why you might not wish to.
We made three cards during the Live, one with the Whale Done Suite (as requested by a few of you), which was also a Fun Fold, which I know a lot of people enjoy. The other cards were made using items from the Playing with Patterns Suite, this is one that I had meant to make on a previous Live, but time and IT got the better of me. Sadly everything I had put to one side (other than the ink) was still in one of my project boxes!
Enough chat, time for the projects
The first project I shared was a Double Dutch Door Card. I have never made one of these before, but it is such a great card and I am loving the fold. As I had been asked to share some more projects with the Whale Done Suite, I chose to use that for this card. The fold is so much easier than I thought it was going to be, and the cutting and scoring instructions are easy for ALL paper sizes (see further down the post).
The key to this fold, for me, was to keep the Designer Series Paper on the front in one piece, just split over the three flaps. Because I was using 6×6″ paper I kept the full 6″ and just cut the width to the size of my full card front. I then trimmed the bottom 2″ (this will make sense when you see the dimensions) and adhered this piece to one of the bottom flaps. Once that was in place, I cut the share piece off and adhered that to the other flap, making sure to line up across the two flaps.
Adhere the large piece of the paper so that it lines up at the bottom of the large flap. You will find that the paper is too long at the top, but don’t worry, you just trim that off. Punching the whale from the Designer Series Paper is super easy, I also punched a piece of card and adhered the paper to the card, just for some added strength. BUT the Top Tip on this card is using the Jar Punch to punch out the sentiment for the front of the card. You have to take a look at the video, just for that!
Playing with Patterns
So, we finally find ourselves making the card I had planned a while back. I actually have 2 cards with this Suite. The first is one making my own, slightly crocked, Designer Series Paper. The colour inspiration for this card is from one of the patterns in the pack and just used the long stripes to do my version. I used both first and second generation stamping, and in the case of Highland Heather being Purple Posy, third! I love the simplicity of this card. It is so busy with the stamping that you really don’t need to do much more. A long sentiment strip and some of the Resin Dots from the Suite.
The second card uses a paper from the Designer Series Paper pack. It happens to have the colours in the same order as the previous card, but it is not the paper that inspired the first one. I did not cut the paper very frugally, but I wanted all the colours to appear on the card. Other than using printed paper, the cards are very similar. The main difference is that on the fist one I put the sentiment on Dimensionals. In the second I stuck the sentiment flat and added Dimensionals behind the Night of Navy mat.
The inside of both cards is the same. The sentiment is highlighted with the addition of some of the 2-step stamping ‘sparkles’. These are the dots and dashes stamps. Super easy to line up, but adds a surprise element to the inside of the card.
And that was it. My Live was finished, well almost. On every Facebook Live AND on the Replay, there is a prize!! All you need to do to be in with a chance of winning is to Share either the Facebook Video, or the YouTube Video. When you share the videos, please leave a comment to say that you have SHARED it. If you are in the UK, the prize for this video is the Soft Spring Host Set from the last Annual Catalogue. If you are overseas then I will happily let you have one of my digital tutorials instead.

Dimensions – Whale Done
For both International A4 and North American Letter:
Cut 2″ off the bottom of your sheet of card. Using the Stampin’ Up! trimmer, your card will be in Landscape when you do this. Turn the large piece of card a quarter turn and cut it in half. One of the pieces you have just cut is for the card, the other is spare. With the larger piece of card in landscape, score it as though you are making a top folding card from the full length. If you are using A4 card, score the 2″ piece at 5.25cm from each end. If you are using Letter card, score at 2-1/8″ from each end. To get the 2″ piece to fold nicely around the larger piece you may want to trim 1/16″ or 1mm off the long edge of the larger piece.
