Creating Kindness Blog Hop – Texture. Thank you for joining me again today, whether you have joined me from the fabulous Jay Soriano, or straight to my Blog, it is great to wee you here. I am delighted to have been invited to join the Design Team for the Creating Kindness Monthly Blog Hop. You may remember that I have been the Guest Designer with them a couple of times, but to be asked to join them as a permanent member is just amazing. I am so honoured to be part of such a great group.
As I mentioned our theme this month is ‘Texture’, which I have taken pretty literally and have used 3 layers of Shimmer White Embossing Paste for my card. I was not convinced it was going to work, but I am pretty pleased with the result, it is certainly unique. I did want to make a video of how I made it, and I may yet, but as this is also Catalogue Launch Week, I seemed to have a rather full diary for some reason!
How to make the project
I used the Many Layered Blossom Dies as masks for this project. The first thing I needed to do was cut each of the dies in Thick Whisper White Card, of course you can use and thick card you have to hand. You need to keep everything other than the small pieces that fall out, so you will have 2 ‘frames’ and 2 floral pieces. You will need to decide on your colour scheme at this point. I chose the new Magenta Madness paired with Gorgeous Grape.
Applying the Paste
Lay one of your ‘frames’ over the front of your card base (I stuck it down with a few pieces of washi tape) and apply a thin layer of Shimmery White Embossing Paste with one of the Palette Knives. Remove the ‘frame’ and clean up your Palette Knife with some soapy water, then leave the paste to dry. Once it is dry, reapply the ‘frame’ and inlay the thinner of the two floral pieces, holding everything in place with washi tape. on a silicone mat, mix some of the paste with a drop of Gorgeous Grape ink refill and mix to make a soft lilac. Apply this coloured past to the card and, as before, remove the masks and clean the Palette Knife. If there is any past left, cover this with cling film to keep it from setting. Again, you will need to leave the paste on the card to dry. The final layer is a repeat of the second layer, but using a ‘frame’ and the more solid floral die cut. Add more ink to the past to get the darker colour and then apply as before.
You need to make sure that the paste is fully dry before you do anything more. Once I was comfortable that the paste was dry I put it under my F Block overnight to make sure it was flat. If you find it is still try to curl a little, you can add a mat of card on the reverse of the front panel of the card. Make sure to add a reasonable quantity of a strong adhesive so that it helps to keep everything flat. The finishing touches are simply to stamp the ‘Thank You’ sentiment in Gorgeous Grape on a narrow strip of card and back it with a strip of Gorgeous Grape card. Apply this toward the bottom of the card using mini dimensionals in the spaces between the layers of embossing past. Depending on the colour of your card base, add a mat on the inside to write on.
