Boho Indigo for The Spot Challenge. This week The Sketch Design Team has been playing with a sketch. I love challenges that are based around a sketch because it actually gives you a lot of scope for being really creative. You don’t have to stick rigidly to the sketch, you could rotate it, move some of the elements around and, of course, use any products you want. Today’s sketch could even be turned into a fun fold (now I think of that!! I could have done that for my project!!!!) To see all of the Design Team inspiration pieces, simply click on the image below and you will jump straight there. But why not take a look at my project first?I recently bought the Boho Indigo Product Medley, so thought I would break it open for this Challenge. I have always loved the look of cream and dark blue, so Very Vanilla and Night of Navy was always going to be a hit with me. Although the colours in the paper also include Whisper White, Misty Moonlight and Garden Green. I chose to embrace the Night of Navy/Very Vanilla colour combo, with a bit of gold for a ‘pop’. I also chose to stick pretty closely to the sketch to see just how easy, or difficult, it would be to work with. Along the way I did learn a couple of things, such as adhering a very narrow strip of gold foil to one of the diagonal cuts was not as easy as I thought it would be.
I started by trying gold heat embossing on Misty Moonlight, but found that the contrast was not as great as I was looking for, so I used Night of Navy instead, with much better results. As the papers have a bit of an aged look I thought I would add a bit of distressed gold heat embossing to the edges of the Tasteful Label Die Cut. This is easy to do bu simply rubbing the edge of the die cut into a Versamark Ink Pad and then adding some Gold Embossing Powder to the edges before melting it.
I popped up the vase onto the label and then stuck the label straight onto the card front. The largest mat has been added with more Dimensionals onto the card base for an added element. I the UK this is not going to be a standard letter, but sometimes Large Letter Postage is worth it. The inside felt a little plain, so I added the sentiment in Night of Navy Ink and because I used Night of Navy ink, this is a perfect card for a man. That said, I felt that even for a man, there was something missing. This was solved with the addition of some Gold Glitter Enamel Dots, just 3 smaller ones is all it took to bring the card together.
Now why not watch the video, remembering to hit the ‘Subscribe’ button and the ‘Alert Bell’ so you know when I have added a new video. I would love to know if you prefer the card I made in the video, or the one I made prior to this post. Why not let me know in the comments below, or over on my YouTube Channel.
Remember that to enter you just need to share your project on The Spot Challenge website (linked above – simply click on the sketch image at the top of this post).
