Top Tip Tuesday – Fussy Cutting. Welcome back to my website, I trust you and your loved ones are keeping well in these strange times.
I have been doing more fussy cutting than usual over the past few weeks, and have been trying to get you all to do more too. In a few of my recent videos I have been giving some hints and tips on perfecting this technique. Today it is the only thing I am looking at. I have chosen to use the Seriously The Best stamp set for my example. It is on the Retirement List and is more than 60% off. It is a great stamp set to use on its own, but you could get the matching Project Kit (also heavily reduced) and have some inspiration for making some amazing cards.
Writing about how to improve your fussy cutting is not the easiest thing to do, but I will try. So, my main tips are that you should have a really sharp pair of scissors, our Snips are perfect for this. You should not move your scissors, other than to open and close the blades. You may think this is madness. How can you possibly cut out a shape if you don’t move your scissors around it? Well this is the next tip, move the paper or card so your scissors then simply keep cutting. I have not described this well, so I really do think the best thing you can do to understand this, is to watch my video tutorial so you can SEE what I mean.
Now you have seen this technique in detail, I urge you to practise, then practise some more, after that, just practise a bit more. Start with some simple shapes that don’t have too many narrow elements, then move on to more intricate shapes. I hope this helps you perfect this technique. Once you have it in your tool belt of techniques you will find you use it LOTS. It can turn a 2 dimensional project into a 3 dimensional piece of art, so is very worth while spending some time on.
