Good Morning Magnolia for The Spot Challenge. Today is another Challenge Design Team day and I am LOVING this challenge.
The Spot Challenge this week is to use Petal Pink, Gray Granite and one or more metallic. I was thrilled when I saw this because I think Petal Pink and Gray Granite work so well together, add some of the ‘warm’ metallics and you have something close to perfection.
I grabbed the Good Morning Magnolia Stamp set and the Tufted 3D Embossing folder, both from the Annual Catalogue, for my main feature pieces. The Tufted background adds just enough so it is not plain, but not so much that it detracts from the main image.
I wanted the outline of the large Magnolia to be in Copper Embossing (one of the 2 ‘warm’ metallics), but I found that if I did that before colouring with the Stampin’ Blends, the powder made the Blends go a little muddy, even after the powder was melted. The solution? To stamp in Petal Pink first, then colour, then go back and do the heat embossing. This is where the Stamparatus is such an amazing tool. Everything lines up perfectly time after time after time.
For the lower part of the card, I simply heat embossed the sentiment onto the card base, again in Copper Embossing Powder. The join between the two areas is covered with a strip of Champagne Foil (the second of my ‘warm’ metallics) using one of the borders from the Ornate Borders dies that are on early release. the gap between the two cut edges is just 1/4″ wide, so perfect for a piece of the Petal Pink Metallic Edged Ribbon. Having die-cut the strip, I cut it so it was the same width as the card base. Because both the ribbon and the gap are 1/4″ wide, I could adhere everything together using Tear & Tape, and just tuck the end of the ribbon underneath, before adhering the strip over the join.
The finishing touch is some Basic Pearls coloured with the Dark Petal Pink Stampin’ Blend. Oh, and of course, some stamping on the inside to bring the inside and outside together.
