One of the Detailed Hearts Inlaid Cards. Did you spot the Detailed Hearts die on Page 12 of the new January/June Mini Catalogue? It is part of the Heart to Heart Bundle, but is really well hidden, so I have a few projects planned over the next few weeks to give this the exposure I think it deserves. And this is my first.
First a word of caution, the die is quite detailed so be careful when you remove it from the packaging the first time. I used it to die cut in both Copper and Black Foils so I could use the hearts from one to inlay into the other. I had used adhesive sheets on the back of the foil, so this made the fine die cut really easy to adhere to the mats. One of the ‘looks’ I really like at the moment is the look of turquoise and copper, so I used both Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay mats.
I decided to see if I could make some of the background more of a part of the design, so I added some Fine Tipped Glue to a few of the hearts, this dries clear and glossy, so is perfect as a subtle highlight. It is one of those techniques I keep forgetting about and must remember to use more often. Once these were dry I added the contrasting hearts into the spaces that had been left by the die. Dies that are made so you can inlay pieces are always something I look at, it extends what you can do with them.
As one of the foils I had used was Black, it seemed logical to use Basic Black for the card base and the sentiment. I remembered that the Tags, Tags, Tags Stamps and matching Trio of Dies had carried over from the Autumn/Winter Catalogue, and that they cover Valentine’s Day. Perfect! I heat embossed with Copper Powder and used two different dies for my two cards. The first had a hole in the top of it, which is great for tags, but not perfect for a sentiment. I added some of the Copper Trim from the Annual Catalogue and pulled the ends so they spread in a mesh. For the inside of the card I used the matching ink and picked one of the sentiments that had not been used on the outside of the card. I was careful to cover the area below the stamp with a Sticky Note before I stamped, just in case there was any ink on the stamp.
So what do you think? Do you like the inlay technique? What about the Fine Tipped Glue as an accent? Do let me know. As I mentioned at the start, I have a few more projects set with this die in the coming weeks, so keep your eyes peeled for those. Oh, and this evening at 9pm, one of my projects will feature on Kylie Bertucci’s Blog. You may know that Kylie is the top demonstrator in Australia, so this is quite a thrill for me.
