Top Tip Tuesday – Masking Technique Tutorial. Welcome back to Top Tip Tuesday and a more usual post from me this week. I am giving you all a little sneak peek of one of the new Stamp Sets available FREE during Sale-a-Bration. This set is my hot pick for selling really well. It is just so cute and I have already made so many samples with it (more of that in due course).
My card uses a fairly basic Masking Technique using a sticky note, or rather a few sticky notes! The process is fairly straightforward and once you have your masks cut you can use them over and over again. All you have to do is stamp your chosen image, in this case the group of meerkats, so that the bottom is on the section of the sticky note that is actually sticky. Then you just fussy cut to the inside of the image, cutting away any solid elements, such as the meerkat ears. Cutting inside the stamped line means you are less likely to have a halo round images when you add extra layers of stamping.
Once you have your masks you can start to build your image. Start at the front and work to the sides and backwards. Everytime you stamp an image that is going to be stamped over, simply add the mask before you stamp. Bit by bit you will be able to build up your image. For this card I wanted lots of meerkats, so just kept going until I felt I had enough.
So a few stood out from the crowd, I coloured a few using the Crumb Cake Blends Combo. Just this little touch makes such a difference to the card. Because I was using Crumb Cake Classic Ink and the Light Crumb Cake Blend, I chose to mount my mat onto a Crumb Cake card base. For once, I added a liner, which is the same size as the mat, and stamped the single standing meerkat on the corner, which I repeated on the envelope.
I love the sentiments included in this set, and chose the Birthday one for these cards. I chose to use Lovely Lipstick for the first card I made, and changed to Night of Navy for the second. The sentiment is popped up on Dimensionals and the end is cut to form a ‘flag’ for a bit of additional interest. Both have a few enamel dots added in the matching colour from the Happiness Blooms Enamel Dots pack.
I love both versions of the card and hope you do too. I have included both the Night of Navy and Lovely Lipstick inks in the Product list so you can choose which you prefer. Using either Night of Navy or Lovely Lipstick means that if you order everything I have used (excluding adhesive) you would be spending £46.25, so would qualify for a Level 1 Sale-a-Bration item, such as The Gang’s all Meer stamp set!
