I’m Dreaming of Sunshine and Seaside Notions. At the moment the weather in South Oxfordshire is (how can I put this politely?) raining more than a little, it is pouring and there is a deluge. Or in other words, it is REALLY wet. The river near us has broken its banks already, so we are just waiting to see if the main road to the other side of the river is going to flood or not. I should put all of this in context and say that the road floods on a reasonably frequent basis, but it is getting more frequent now because the Oxford Flood Prevention system diverts the water further down the river so that the City is not flooded. Happily there are a couple of other roads out of the village, so we will be fine. Our house is 50ft above the river level, so unless the whole village disappears under water, we will be fine.
But the appalling weather is making me dream of summer days and the warmth of the sun. So was it a surprise that I pulled the Seaside Notions stamp set? My card design was taken from one of the designs in the Annual Catalogue. This is a great resource for inspiration and I often look at the designs to give me a leg up if my design mojo is a little lacking on a day.
I have heat embossed all of the images with Gold Powder and then water-coloured with an aqua brush and ink from the lid of my ink pads, before fussy cutting them. Generally I would not recommend using water colour on standard Whisper White Card, but if you are only adding a quick wash, you can ‘get away with it’. I also added a wash to the Whisper White mat.
I wanted an extra ‘something’ behind the stamped elements. The net from the Under The Sea dies seemed perfect, so I cut it from Vellum Card and that gave me just the look I was after. One of the Coral elements is also in Vellum, so it all ties in nicely. As you probably know, sticking Vellum down can be a challenge because the adhesive will show through. With this in mind I just laid the vellum net down on the mat and adhered the stamped elements on top. The adhesive from the stamped elements were enough to hold the net in place. Some are adhered with Multi Purpose Liquid adhesive, others with Dimensionals.
The final touches were a Gold Embossed sentiment punched out with the Classic Label Punch and a few Gold Glitter Dots from the Christmastime is Here Suite. The Glitter dots added the perfect amount of sparkle and shine. I have even remembered to add something to the inside of the card again!! So what do you think? Do you like my little dream of warmer months?
