Top Tip Tuesday Laminated Shaker Card. I have been trying to remember to share this tip with you for a while, but I keep forgetting. That is now being put right! This might be a solution for those of you that hate glitter (and I do know there are a few people who just don’t like it!) It also means you can make a shaker card that is never going to shed glitter. Seriously, once you have followed the Top Tip, that glitter is not shifting.
How? Simple. Just take a standard Laminate pocket and add Embossing Powder, Glitter or flat sequins. In fact you can add any flat items you want. Simply feed the laminate pocket through your laminator to seal everything in. There are a few things to bear in mind. Firstly, don’t get the contents too close to the edge of the pocket or you might find it gets into the machine itself. Next, and this is especially important if the items are not see through, DON’T USE TOO MUCH. Embossing powder spreads out as it melts, so use a light hand when adding it.
You will end up with a sheet of plastic that has the look of a shaker card in ‘mid shake’ but with all the ease of a simple sheet of plastic. The one I used in today’s sample contained White Embossing Powder and the flat sequins from the Snowflake Sequins pack. The snowflake shaped sequins are a particular favourite of mine. I have also used Dazzling Diamonds and Ice Glitter mixed, as well as Simmer White Embossing Powder, which has a great mix of glitter and embossing powder.
To make your card, just cut a window in your card and adhere the laminate pocket between layers of card and Designer Series Paper. For my design I chose the Feels Like Frost Designer Series Paper and paired it with the Still Scenes Stamp and Die Bundle (remember to take advantage of the 10% Bundle Discount!) I love the finished effect. For those of you in the UK, it also means that you can post a Shaker Style card at the standard Postage rate!! Added bonus.
Well I hope you enjoyed today’s Top Tip and that you will give it a go. Laminate machines are not at all expensive to buy these days, so if you are in need of one anyway, then remember that you can also use it for your creative ideas.

Such a great tip. I really will have to try this👍🏻
Really a great tip! TFS How do you keep the glitter, sequins, embossing powder, etc evenly dispersed before you run the laminate sheets in the laminator? Is this a little tricky to do??? I always LOVE your videos.
Hi Debi, Good question! It actually doesn’t move around that much, and part of the fun is that it is not completely even. You only want a very small amount of whatever you choose to use, particularly if you use embossing powder, which ‘grows’ as you feed it through. If I tell you that my laminator is only ever on my floor and it was super easy, I hope that will explain just how easy it is to do. Have fun trying it! Lx
