Toile Tidings Eco Friendly Cracker. Yesterday I promised to show you some more alternatives to some of the less Eco-friendly Christmas Crackers on the market these days. The main issues with many crackers is that they use tissue paper, foil and glitter, none of which are generally able to be recycled. Add to that the paper hat and cheap plastic gift and you are really upping the lack of recyclable materials. Frankly, any excuse to NOT where one of those dreadful paper hats is a bonus for me (Bah, Humbug!!)
My samples today are a little ‘dumpy’ but still very cute. I used a piece of the Toile Tidings Designer Series Paper for these. It happened to be the right width, so rather than cut into another piece I thought I would simply cut it in half at 6″ and see how it turned out. I actually like the small size, so decided to make the second one the same. Because the papers are the same pattern on both sides, just in different colourways, this worked out really well.
The decoration uses the scrap pieces, so there is only the smallest waste, which has to be a plus. To make the decoration I simply stuck the pieces together, applying adhesive to one half only and then sticking that to a second punched piece. I love how they turned out and that you have the same pattern on both the cracker and the decoration.
As you need paper that is 7-1/2″ wide, you can only make these with the 12 x 12″ papers, but I am going to see if I can work out a way to make them using 6 x 6″ paper. Watch this space for news on that soon. If I do manage to work it out, you would be able to get 4 from one piece of 12 x 12″ paper and also use the 6 x 6″ paper stacks. Fingers Crossed.
I would love to hear your thoughts on which papers would be fun to use for these crackers, so why not leave me a comment to let me know? On, and I meant to say, the punch I used was the smallest one from the Gleaming Ornaments Punch set!
