Meet Mercury Glass Acetate, Dracula and a Snowman! Quick and Stunning Cards. I have been meaning to use the Mercury Glass Acetate from the Autumn/Winter Catalogue, but have only just managed to do so. As I mentioned earlier this week, I am sharing the last few Halloween projects this week, so my first project uses the Monster Bash Designer Series Paper. I did not use any stamp for this card, I simply fussy cut the picture from the paper and then matted it on Terracotta Tile card, which I also fussy cut. I know. Shocking, that there is no stamping!
The project I made in today’s video uses the other pattern of Mercury Glass Acetate and a punched image from the Let it Snow Designer Series Paper. I finished my snowman with punched arms and hat. really simple and quick. For this card I did add some stamping because it looked a little bare without it. I used a sentiment from the matching Snowman Season Stamp set. Both cards have some ribbon under the focal point. I love adding a small amount of ribbon towards the bottom of a card. It helps to pull the eye to the focal point and make it seem more ‘attached’ to the card. Without the ribbon the focal point can look as if it is floating.
There are a couple of things to be aware of when using the Mercury Glass Acetate. Firstly, the ‘right’ side of the acetate has a thin film over it to protect it from being scratched before you get to use it. Removing the film is simple. After I had cut the Mercury Glass Acetate to size, I used a piece of standard sticky tape at one of the corners and simply pulled it away from the Mercury Glass Acetate.
The other point to be aware of is that you need to be careful about where you put adhesive. I know it may seem obvious to mention that Mercury Glass Acetate is see through, but guess what, it is! OK, so not all of it is, but that is part of the problem, if we think it is not see through, we could put adhesive in a place where it will show. Try to hide your adhesive behind the silver areas and anything you place on top of it.
Bottom line? I love the Mercury Acetate. Now I will have to see if I can make a box out of it without the adhesive showing and without the Mercury Acetate fighting back!!
