Top Tip Tuesday – Would You Like to Get Better Results with Heat Embossing? Part of Top Tip Tuesday is to remind everyone, including myself, of some of the early lessons we were taught when we first started crafting. This also means that I can share these with new crafters. Either way, this is one that I for one, forgot for a time. I have trained myself to remember now, mostly by changing one simple thing. More of that later.
So what is my Top Tip for today? It is really very simple and comes in 2 parts. The first part is not to forget to use your Embossing Buddy when you want to heat emboss. I know, I did say it was simple, but I think we sometimes forget why this is important. Heat embossing works on the basis that the embossing powder is so light that it will stick to anything that is even slightly sticky. We use the Versamark Ink because it is very sticky, but so are finger prints, particularly in warmer weather. Using the Embossing Buddy on our card before stamping helps to minimise unwanted ‘sticky’. Just take a look at what happens if you forget to use it!
I deliberately used Basic Black card and Silver Embossing powder to emphasise this. Basic Black picks up every possible sticky mark, while the Silver Embossing powder is the finest and lightest, so sticks more easily. But I said there would be 2 parts to this Top Tip, so here’s the second one. DON’T OVERHEAT YOUR EMBOSSING POWDER!!! I know, upper case and exclamation marks. Over heating is very easy to do by mistake, so keep an eye on the powder as it melts. As soon as it goes shiny, move to another area, because once you overheat the powder there is nothing you can do to rectify the problem. The powder will become dull and will almost look like it has been absorbed by the card. Take a look.
So, in conclusion, to get better results, remember to use your Embossing Buddy and don’t overheat your powder. The picture at the top of this post is what you should end up with if you get it right. Take a look at the how I created the three versions in today’s video.
I can help you remember one with a tip that worked for me. Keep your Embossing Buddy with your Versamark Ink Pad. I store my Versamark Pad upside down, so it is really easy to keep the Embossing Buddy in the dip. This means you will always pick them up together. As for not over heating the powder. That you are going to have to remember yourself!
