Stampers Showcase Blog Hop – Children and Babies. Welcome to another Stampers Showcase Blog Hop, which this time has the theme of Children and Babies.
So, let’s start with pointing out that I don’t have children and, other than one week when I was 21, I have never wanted children. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t that I don’t like children, I just never wanted any of my own. But, what this does mean is that I have no idea what children like. I mean why would I? My niece is now a young lady about to start studying for a Masters in Biology, so Children and Babies is not an obvious choice of topic for me. But I am not one to run away from a challenge, so I have grasped it with both hands.
I have worked on the basis that children like presents and they often find the packaging the most exciting part of the whole present getting thing. With that in mind I have made a box that is large enough to hold quite a few little goodies. It measures 3″ x 4-1/4″ x 2″, so I hope you agree that is a good size. But the main feature of this box is the closure, which is a piece of ribbon that goes through three layers of the card and over the edge at the front of the box. This means that you don’t need too much ribbon, but you get the full impact of the ribbon you do use.
Because of the way the box closes, I decided that I would make a feature of the top of the box. I pulled the Broadway Birthday stamp set, and the matching Broadway Lights dies. These were a bundle when they were first in the catalogue, saving 10% if you bought them then. As you may know, if the items in a bundle carry over, you can no longer buy them at the Bundle price. I just warn you of this so you remember to get any bundles you like while they are still current!
I stamped the ‘WISH’ from Broadway Birthday in the same colour as the box, then added the matching dots by heat embossing in gold. Do make sure that the colour stamping is fully dry AND use your embossing buddy. The ‘Boy’ version is in Blueberry Bushel, so I used the matching foil from the Noble Peacock Suite. For the ‘Girl’ version I used Champagne Foil as it goes really well with the Petal Pink I chose for the box.
I made matching Gift Tags for both boxes by simple die cutting ‘WISH’ and a candle in the same foil and adding to a strip of card that had been punched with the Delightful Tag Topper Punch. I used Whisper White card for the ‘Boy’ box, but Very Vanilla for the ‘Girl’ box as I felt it went with the Petal Pink better. Making this project made me realise, I have not used Broadway Birthday enough, so I must put that right and remember to use it more often, it is great!
You will find the measurements and scoring at the bottom of this post. I would love you to give it a go, it really is a cute box. I hope you enjoyed this slightly different box and what I did with it.
Now you need to continue the Stampers Showcase hop by hitting the ‘Next’ button and jumping over to Mo Rootes. Trust me, I know it will be worth while.
