Top Tip Tuesday Any Coloured Ribbon or Twine. Welcome back to my blog on, what is being predicted as, a very hot day for us in the UK. Now don’t get me wrong, I am a fan of warmer weather, but we currently have predictions of temperatures hitting the mid 30s Celsius, for those of you who work in Fahrenheit, that is the mid 90s. I know that is not hot in comparison to many parts of the world, but the UK gets these kind of temperatures so infrequently that we are not set up for them. Very few homes have any form of Air Conditioning, so all we can do is open the windows and sweat it out.
But that has nothing to do with today’s Top Tip. I did give you a sneak peek of this yesterday, but I thought it worthy of a full video. Getting Any Coloured Ribbon with very few supplies. The ribbon I showed you yesterday was coloured with Stampin Blends and this is a fantastic technique and works really well with our Silver Edged Ribbon and, for some colours, the Gold Edged Ribbon. It is really easy and quick. The ribbon will start off a slightly different colour, but as the alcohol evaporates the colour changes to be nearer to the colour you are looking for, albeit the ribbon will be a little stiffer.
I showed you a project a few weeks back that used Baker’s Twine that I had dyed. As this is the day for Any Coloured Ribbon, I thought I would add in Twine. I use our Whisper White Baker’s Twine and soak it in a mixture of water and a few drops of re-inker. You will need to experiment a little with how much colour to add. This will depend on the shade and how long you are prepared to leave it, I find leaving it for at least a couple of hours, but preferably overnight, is best. In the video I tried adding some of the White Flax ribbon to the pot of colour. It has worked like a dream!!
The key to all of this is that if the ribbon is made of a natural material, you can use a water based dye, but if it is a synthetic material, a dye with an alcohol base would be better. I have yet to try adding re-inker to rubbing alcohol, but will give that a go and let you know on my Business Facebook page how that goes.
