Sweet Silhouettes Monochrome Cards. One of my favourite techniques is to die cut 3 or 4 of the same image and layer them up to make a real statement on a card. This is great if you want to make just one element stand out, but can also be used on more than one element to give a simple card real impact. This is one of the latter cards.
I fell in love with the Dandelion Wishes stamp set when it was launched, the images remind me of my childhood, blowing them to make a wish. So there was a little squeal when I realised that the Sweet Silhouettes dies also have a Dandelion! I knew it would not be long before I was die cutting them. But which project? Then I realised that all I needed was a really clean and simple layout. What could be more simple than the dandelion in a simple frame?
For my first card I chose to die cut the Dandelion in Basic Black card, with a white frame, cutting 3 layers of each. I added a small sentiment with Tuxedo Black Ink. ‘Keep Dreaming’ from the Bundled Stamp Set, Silhouette Scenes, seemed to be the right thing to add, and it means that the card can be sent to all sorts of people for any occasion, or no occasion at all. I love a ‘for no good reason’ card. Oh, and the frame is made simply by using adjacent sizes of Layering Squares dies. Do remember that if you by the matching stamp set and die, or punch, when they first appear in a Catalogue, you can save 10% by using the Bundle Item code. Not at all shabby!!
I was not sure that I had the balance of ‘colour’ right on the first card, so in the video I changed the Basic Black out and used just Whisper White, in fact the Thick version to add to the bulk. I added fewer pearls to the second card too, but still had the pop of Black with the sentiment.
Which do you prefer? The All White is certainly very elegant, but is it too white? But is the Black too much? It is not as subtle as the all White version, but is that good or bad? Do let me know what you think. Just leave a comment here, or hop over to my YouTube and leave a comment there.
