Top Tip Tuesday with Laser Cut Paper. I have a confession to make. Almost a year ago I bought the most amazing pack of Specialty Designer Series Paper and I have only used it a couple of times. This is a sin for so many reasons. Firstly ‘what is the point’ of spending money on something you don’t use? Secondly it is gorgeous, so needs to be used! Lastly, it is gorgeous, so needs to be used! Yes, I know 2 and 3 are the same! Oh, and I should add that it is Whisper White on one side and Very Vanilla on the other!
With this in mind, I have pulled the pack out (very carefully because it is very delicate) and taken another look at it. Guess what? It is perfect for all kinds of masking techniques, can be coloured with ink (see this post), some of the more solid designs can be used with embossing paste. The lists goes on.
Today I am going to concentrate on one masking technique using sponge brayers. This is a really simple way to both colour the paper AND make a second card at the same time. I love anything that saves time. So how is this done?
Simply lay one of the designs (this is particularly good for the smaller pieces, but could be used with the borders and 12 x 12 pages) on a piece of cardstock. Attach the edges with masking or washi tape to hold everything in place and to mask areas you don’t want inked. Add ink to your sponge brayer (you don’t need much) and roll over the paper, being careful to add an even covering. The colour will build up quicker than you may think, so bear this in mind.
Once you are happy with the amount of colour you have added, gently remove the tape to reveal the finished result. It is one of those techniques that I will never tire of. That final reveal is just stunning and I love it! You now have two pieces to make cards with; the laser cut piece and the card mat. I kept my cards fairly simple (OK, I did add a LOT of pearls to mine!) because the laser cut paper really can stand on its own.
My favourite? It has to be the Blushing Bride, Rich Razzleberry and Soft Suede card. With a classic look and the laser cut paper as the star, which is what it should be! It is just the most stunning paper which I must use up!
