Solid Colour Embossing with a few Tips and Tricks – and a Mistake!!! Seriously, we are all human and we all make mistakes. The key is to not get too excited about them and find an easy solution. But more of that later. Today I am continuing to use embossing powders, but this time in a more conventional way. That said, possibly not in the ‘classic’ way.
Am I alone in thinking we mostly use embossing for sentiments and outlines? Well today I wanted to use blocks of colour, so I pulled the Bloom by Bloom stamp set from the Happiness Blooms Suite. This is inspired by Scandinavian prints and is totally not normally ‘me’, but I love it!!
I started by stamping and embossing using metallic powders, initially on dark card, pulling Merry Merlot, then on bright card, Lemon Lime Twist. I didn’t ‘love’ either of them. Then I remembered my 2018-2020 InColor Embossing Powders. Sadly, although I was only using them a few days ago for yesterdays project, I keep forgetting that we have these amazing colours. Now this was the effect I was looking for. And I used all of these InColors in this project.
I chose Blueberry Bushel as my mat colour and Lovely Lipstick for the card base. The flowers were Call Me Clover and Grapefruit Grove, with Pineapple Punch dots. I love the bright look of this. But I have missed the tips, of which there are a couple. First, make sure you cover the card mat with Embossing Buddy powder (not too much – watch the video to find out why!), this is particularly important when you are using dark card and lots of powder.
Make sure your Versamark Ink Pad is good an juicy so you don’t end up with gaps in your stamping, if you need a refill, remember that you can get one from my online store. Next, don’t over heat your powder or it will go ‘odd. Metallics will become mat and colours may ‘split’. In the video I show the embossing on the Lemon Lime Twist where it burnt. In yesterday’s video I ‘split’ the Lovely Lipstick embossing powder. Learn from my mistakes.
I would love to see some projects from you guys using block embossing. Why not share them over on my Old Stables Crafty Hangout on Facebook.
