Designer’s Choice
This month we have no theme to follow, so have free reign. This is not always the easiest idea as there is almost too much choice. I did now that I wanted to feature the amazing new Sale-a-Bration items and the soon to be released Sale-a-Bration Coordination. As it is a while since I have featured a handmade Box frame, I decided to revisit that for today’s project. One of the new Sale-a-Bration items is an amazing bundle. It features a stamp set and some really pretty Designer Series Paper. This was my chosen item to use for today’s project. Because this is a Sale-a-Bration item the only way you can get your hands on it is FREE with a qualifying purchase of just £90. So my brain could start work on the design.
How to Make the Box Frame
Let’s start with how to make the frame. There is full information on this in the YouTube video that goes with this post, so you probably want to take a look at that too. I decided to use a standard piece of A4 card stock. If you are in the USA, this works just as well with your standard 8-1/2 x 11″ card, you just end up with a slightly shorter and fatter frame. Simply score each edge at 1/2, 1, 1-1/2 and 2″, then on 2 opposite sides add a score line at 2-1/2″ from the edge of the card to the 1″ mark only. Only do this on either the long sides or the short sides, not both. Personally I turn my cardstock on the Simply Scored for every side so I am certain that the score lines are in the right place. Add a diagonal score line as shown in the picture below, then cut away ALL the red areas.
Now Let’s put it all Together
I chose Early Espresso for my frame and added a piece of one of the B Sides of the Designer Series Paper to the middle BEFORE I stuck the sides in. Using the Large Alphabet Dies to form the word ‘HOME’, I cut one of each of the letters in Poppy Parade and three in Petal Pink. I had added Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet to the card before die cutting, so just had to layer them up like a sticker before adding them to the frame. The flowers are in Grapefruit Grove and Poppy Parade, three of each, and then the foliage is in Call Me Clover and Lemon Lime Twist. Because I am a Demonstrator, I was able to pre-order the Painted Seasons Dies that are available in March, or while stocks last. You can get them early if you want to add them to your Starter Kit, so do bear that in mind and let me know if you want the item numbers.
Layering up the die cuts was great fun, as it is then you see everything come together. I just added small amounts of liquid adhesive to the die cuts and layered everything up. Just make sure that anything on the bottom frame does not go over the edge, unless you are going to hang it. I added a stand to the back of the frame and some Faceted Gems to the centres of some of the flowers to complete the piece. I have to say I am really pleased with the result!
At the time of writing this post I am not sure who is next on the hop, but do please go and take a look at their project idea, I am sure it will be fun.
