Top Tip Tuesday – Mirror Stamping. If you watched my Simple Stamping Saturday video, you will have seen that one of the stepped up versions included ‘Mirror Stamping’. This is by no means a new technique, but that does not mean that everyone knows how to do it. The version of the technique I use involves using the Stamparatus (although I guess any stamp positioning tool would work). I use a Silicone Mat as the ‘slick’ surface, but you could use a piece of acetate I guess. It is a really easy, but fantastic technique. People will be amazed that you don’t have a mirror image stamp. We all like a bit of magic.
All you need to do is position your stamp on your Stamparatus in the usual way. I tend to do the ‘right way round’ stamping first so I can use that as a guide for positioning the ‘mirror’ image. Next ink up your stamp in the usual way and place your silicone mat where the card stock would usually go. I find that for a ‘clean’ image it is best to repeat the inking and stamping on the silicone mat a second time. Now flip your card stock over so it is face down over the silicone mat (be careful that the top is at the top!). Close the Stamparatus lid over the card stock and press, as you would if you were stamping. Remove the Card and, as if by magic, you will have a ‘mirror’ of the stamped image.
If you are looking for a reflection, rather than a mirror, I would only stamp on the silicone mat once, and only very lightly. But that is a whole other video and post!
