Eco Friendly Christmas Wrapping Paper and Handmade Gift Tag

Eco Friendly Christmas Wrapping Paper and Handmade Gift Tag. Did you know that not all wrapping paper can be Recycled? I am talking about the UK here, so please bear with me if you are somewhere else. A recent report on the BBC said: “Not all wrapping paper is paper,” some is plastic-based. Then there’s the issue of gift wrap that’s covered in “metres of Sellotape”, not to mention gift tags or paper that contains foil or glitter, none of which can be recycled. It went on to say that there is not even a standard across the UK, some areas will take it, some won’t. So what is the solution?

Well for me it is simple. Make your own! And guess what, it is easy. This is probably the easiest craft project I have done, ever! Add to the mix that you can often use what you already have, and the extras are no expensive. Then you also get the glow of knowing that you are saving the planet AND the result is stunning!

So how is it done? Well, buy a roll of ordinary brown paper, ideally the type that is called ‘Kraft Roll’, which is less shiny than some. I got mine from my local Wilko store and it was only £1 for a roll 6 metres by 50 cm! That’s a lot of paper. I stamped it in Cherry Cobbler Ink with two of the images from the Dashing Deer Stamp set, but any Christmas Stamps will work, and any colour ink. My suggestion would be to use a dye ink as it will dry quicker. The great news is that it doesn’t matter if the stamping is not perfect as the paper is going to be folded and cut, and probably covered with ribbons and tags! It took me about 30 minutes to stamp the whole 6 metre roll, so not very long at all.

The tag is made using Crumb Cake Card, the nearest we have to Craft now. I die cut one of the Deer from the Detailed Deer Dies in Cherry Cobbler. Learn from my mistake and back the card with Multi-Purpose Adhesive Sheet first, this will make sticking the image to the tag much easier. The circles are the largest of the Stitched Shapes and the second largest of the Layering Circles. These are cut in Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla respectively. You could use just the Layering Circles or just the Stitched Shapes, or Circle Punches. Just remember that the ‘Tag’ element is 2″ wide, so you need a circle wider than that.

So, yes, the tag is a 2″ wide strip topped with the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch. This is a favourite punch, I use it more than pretty much any of the others. That’s it. Add the Tag to the parcel by sliding it on to the ribbon, or add some matching Baker’s Twine. I hope you agree the final parcel is very special.

If you want the Dashing Deer Clear Mount Bundle, remember that after 2nd January 2019, it will cost you 10% more. The individual items are carrying over, but not the Bundle Price. BUT if you like Wood Mount Stamps you MUST get them by 2nd January as these are NOT carrying over. Please remember that for Wood Mount it would be best to buy the stamps and dies separately because the Wood Mount stamps have been discounted. Confusing? Don’t worry I have listed the items below. Just remember that the Wood Mount are now only £16.80.
