Happy Anniversary to Me and Mine – Lots of Great Techniques to Share Too! When I planned this card for me to give to my husband for our 3rd Wedding Anniversary, I was convinced that 3 years was ‘wood’. I thought Rooted in Nature would be the ideal bundle to pull. Then I discovered that 3 years is ‘leather’! OK, I could have planned a whole new card, or just ignored the leather/wood thing, but I like a challenge. I decided to keep the design, but to add faux leather to the card. So this card has faux leather and some stamping techniques that you may, or may not, already know.
First let’s deal with the faux leather. This is an easy enough technique, but there are two things to be aware of. Firstly, it takes a while to get the look, second, your card will shrink – a lot! The technique is basically to crumple the card to within an inch of its life. You can spray it with some water one you have got it going, this speeds things up a bit. You can work the fibres with your bone folder too. But for the best results just keep crumpling the card in as many directions as possible. Eventually you will have a piece that is like very soft leather. At this point you can peel the layers apart to give you faux suede; which is what I did on my original card.
The stamping techniques are simply inking up your stamps and then adding some Bright Copper Shimmer Paint before you stamp. Remember to clean your stamp well before you ink it up again AND to clean all the paint off before it ha a chance to dry. The second technique is to embrace one of the qualities of using vellum; that classic ink take a while to dry on it. The slow drying property means that you can add clear embossing powder to the stamped image and then heat it. You end up with a glossy image which, if you have used shimmer paint, has an added sparkle.
